Here's why Jesse Jackson pisses me off.

From ESPN.com:
Jackson said in a telephone interview from Chicago that he wants to draw attention to the selection of Shula, who is white, over Croom, who is black . . . "They chose culture and legacy over excellence and it's insulting," Jackson said . . . Jackson said the decision to hire Shula showed that the state has not progressed far enough beyond its segregationist past . . . He compared the university's decision to hire Shula to Gov. George C. Wallace's "stand in the schoolhouse door" on June 11, 1963, when Wallace sought to prevent two blacks from enrolling at Alabama."

What? I didn't realize that Jesse Jackson was so into football that he could tell right away that Groom as a better candidate for the position. Why would Alabama not hire the person they thought was best for the job? (no Mike Price jokes, please) To me, it seems like he is trying to encourage selection because of race, not because of qualification.

Jesse Jackson is a joke. He's hurting so much more than he is helping, and he knows it.

In chicago a couple years ago there was a gang related fight at a school football game where 11 African American kids beat up another African American kid, it was caught on Video etc... All 11 were arrested and did time, and 5 were expelled from school.

Jesse said it was a race related action and had it been white students none of the kids woulda been expelled.

Raised all kinds of hell, and got nowhere, the school held out.

It is time to break down the nation of repression
The South will soon fall into depression
if it does not stop this regression
Or they will soon find in their possession
Dangerous urges for suppression

It was Decatur, IL. A long way from Chicago. Jackson really stepped in it that time. He had presented the students as honor students with clean records. It was quickly discovered that most were failing, a majority had been held back numerous times, and all had criminal records.

I can't stand Jessie Jackson. I have a LOT of beefs with that clown.

But as much as I hate to say it, he's got a legitimate beef here. I'm a big Miami Dolphins fan. And that obviously makes me a big supporter of the Shula family. But I'm also a big FOOTBALL fan. And I can honestly tell you that Sylvester Croom was the best candidate for the job IMHO. Shula is a young and enthusiatic guy. That's a very big plus for him. And he was a successful QB for the University of Alabama. But he's a position coach IMO. When he ran the Bucs offense for three years (69-99), they really weren't that good. Always stuck in the mud. He had a lot of good ideas. But he simply wasn't very innovative with his offense and wasn't that good of a playcaller.

By contrast, Croom's offenses in Detriot were explosive and among the league's best. Almost like the good Ram offenses. As a position coach, his track record of success dwarfs Shula's. He turned Natrone Means into the stud who carried the Chargers in the Super Bowl. And he has turned Ahman Green into a superstar in Green Bay and solved his fumble problem.

Croom is also a native of Tuscaloosa and played center on Bear Bryant's championship teams. And he coached at Alabama for 10 years. And he's relatively young at 47.

Again, I hate to say it. But Jessie Jackson has a point on this one. Alabama might have been afraid to hire a black head coach. Passing up Croom for Shula certainly doesn't dispell the theory.

he really loves chicago. he went up against one of the larger beer company's for not having enough blacks. In the end his sone ended up controlling the distrubution of beer in most of chicago.

he is only in it for the money. I think he does far more to hurt race relations then help.

I used to respect the man. Until i started reading about some of the stuff Operation Push does.

It's simple really, JJ is all about the money. Hell, he just shook down NASCAR for millions of dollars because there aren't that many black drivers on the NASCAR circuit. Well, last I checked, there weren't that many black individuals even interested in watching NASCAR (my own personal straw poll). Now, who do you think is the main beneficiary of this? JJ's Rainbow PUSH coalition. NASCAR is essentially payng JJ's organization not to raise hell. He does this all over the place. He did it with Budweiser and got at least one of his legitimate sons a Budweiser distrubitorship.

He's just doing the same thing with Alabama right now. Why? Because it is Alabama and VERY easy to make anything there a race issue and it was a hot bed of civil rights activism in the old days.

He is of course ignoring the fact that Georgia, Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt from the SEC alone have had head football coaching openings recently and only Kentucky had a minority candidate. No hub bub for those schools. But, if it is Alabama...time to release the publicity and extortion hounds.

If only the media would also follow that advice. I wish the media would agree with one another to ignore this clown and not cover anything that he does.

If only Jackson had stepped infront of MLK a split second before that shot all those years ago... the wrong man died that day.

NOT just a budweiser distrubitorship. he got one of the largest in the city. he controlls well over 50% of it.
