Here's something interesting... No 3dfx support in WinXP

Well previous iterations provided drivers for all 3dfx cards and they seemed to work perfectly for me so I'm certain they'll keep those drivers in at least.

In any case Win2000 drivers seem to invariably for WinXP quite well.

This means basic 3dfx drivers will not be included in XP. That is all. Windows 2000 drivers will work perfectly.

How many of you use drivers that came with your OS?

Well, my Voodoo3 3000 AGP is getting kind of outdated anyway, sounds like a good excuse to get a GeForce 3 (at least that's what I'll tell my girlfriend ;)).

Well, I just want to say, nowhere in the deal/agreement with nVidia and 3DFX did it say that they had to continue driver support of the 3dfx series cards, they acquired their assets, not their chores ;) Think about this way, hypothetically, if 3DFX had gone under and nVidia hadn't bought them, we'd all be in the same predicament, no driver support etc... I really don't understand where you go off calling a company evil, and yeah I'll say I like nVidia, they're a good company and their products are excellent. But this scenario has nothing to do with nVidia, as everyone knew they wouldn't be supporting the cards in the future.

If you want my opinion their already evil. Read around on some of the things their PR department has done to screw over and rip off various hardware sites.

I recall HardOCP and Hypothermia had quite quite a war going on with NVidia at what point.

As long as they keep advancing the video card technology and paving the way for a bright game future, they're good people.

That is playing evil, I bet M$ is going to make the drivers themselves, they do that for a lot of devices. I am not buying anymore nvidia now.

Yeah right, good people. Good people who want you to pay from 3-5 times more for your video card than any other component in your system. While every other component in systems has come down in price, video cards have been for the most part on a steady rise in price.

Of course, many people tried to blame 3dfx when they went solo, saying it would cause all card prices to go up. And now that 3dfx is no more, I guess it would only be fitting to once again blame them for causing prices to rise, because nVidia has very litle competition. :Q

First off, 3dfx is dead, who cares?

Second, why does everyone hate nVidia all of a sudden? Everyone used to like them when they were compeating agenst 3dfx, but now you blame nVidia for thier death.

nVidia does amazing work. They make the fastest comsumer level video cards in the world, and have brought things like hardware T&L and FSAA to you.

I guess part of being a geek is to root for the "little people" and dislike large corperations. Oh well. I still like nVidia.

Stupid question I'm sure, but is there any chance that Windows 9x drivers work in XP?

For those of you that say win2k drivers will work fine...have you guys even used winxp? I've been using the beta, pre-RC1 and have been keeping track of the newer betas as well. The problem isn't that 3dfx line of cards doesn't work at all in winxp, they work fine in 2d mode, and you can even play games in d3d mode. But you cannot use them to play games in Glide or Opengl! That means for the majority of games, 3dfx line of cards is basically restricted to very low performance, and functionality.

Supposedly NVidia wouldn't give the source code for the drivers to MS to fix, so they just scrapped trying to make it compatible with winxp.

Oh no. The 3DFX owners are going to complain about having to buy a $300 video card to use WinXP, so microsoft is going to take out 80% of the trees and add fog to the OS.

Oh wait. Thats what happened to Tribes2 :p

:|:disgust: How dare you say this !!

:(:p It hurt me to see 3dfx go. It hurts even more that Nvidia won't even back any of 3dfx products.....they are gonna let it die on its own.
Heads up all 3dfx owners. Nvidia will not make any updates they are jus focused on the 3dfx plans thye aquired...

I called the 3dfx customer support number and all the rep BS ..they are telling me " Oh, if your having a problem with your card get new drivers...finally I put them in a corner and they called my card defective. I said " So give me a RMA number let me send you my card and you give me a replacement". They " told me Nvidia doesn't have an answer to that."

Ya it sux....it seemed at a point3dfx was on top of things..all those Nvidia followers now think they are living large with :disgust: their cards. nvidia was nothing before they had to buy out the competition.
Wheen you acquire you takeover...NVIDIA REALLY MADE THEMSELVES LOOK BAD SO U TELL ME WHY U HEAR MORE ABOUT RADEON THEN NVIDIDA !! PEOPLE ARE PICKING AND ALTERNATIVE HAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAT THE HELL WIT NVIDIDA !!:p

I don't know if this is true about the non-support for 3dFx...

I was going to buy a Voodoo5, 5500 PCI just to get full-scene anti-aliasing in ALL video applications, because it's the only videocard that can do it for DOS games, etc...

Voodoo5 should coexist with another vifdeocard, but now I don't know if it will coexist with Windows :)

Am I wrong because it seems to me that Nvidia never bought out 3dfx, they just bought their intellectual property. If this is the case, I don't know how much you can fault nvidia for not supporting 3dfx products.

Right, I don't understand why you're complaining, because a good portion of the time, if company no longer exists, then yeah, they won't RMA your products. And again, nVidia only acquired 3DFX's intellectual property, not their lines of cards or their job to support them.

<< Ya it sux....it seemed at a point3dfx was on top of things..all those Nvidia followers now think they are living large with their cards. nvidia was nothing before they had to buy out the competition >>

So were living large, eh? ;) We all want the "underdog" to win against the competition, but in this case nVidia has top notch cards with amazing performance, and it all boils down to performance, and I don't know, I only paid 180 for my GeForce2 Pro 64MB DDR, so you know it's not that expensive.

Also, What are you talking about, when nVidia released the TNT series cards they were top of the line for that time (they didn't buy out any companies). From the start, nVidia knows what they're doing, and once again, I bet you, nVidia will have another top notch product, the nForce chipset, from the recent previews, it looks amazing.

<< NVIDIA REALLY MADE THEMSELVES LOOK BAD SO U TELL ME WHY U HEAR MORE ABOUT RADEON THEN NVIDIDA !! PEOPLE ARE PICKING AND ALTERNATIVE HAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAT THE HELL WIT NVIDIDA !! >>

And please, this isn't a place for comments of those sorts; using all caps and company bashing, we here try to have intellectual conversations, acting like that doesn't go over well here.

some people don't get it, Nvidia has the driver code and won't release the code to anyone. so nobody can do any real driver updates. I don't expect them(nvidia) to update drivers, but they could at least give out the code to MS or somebody else, oh no not that, they want Voodoo cards to die so they can sell more of there cards
