Okay, here's what I have selected to put together at the end of the year, and Am gonna start buying chunk by chunk soon. Any recommendations/advice is appreciated.

AMD A64 3200 939
MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum
OCZ EL PC4000 1 gb
nvidia 6800GT ( not sure which maker yet.......)
Fortron 530W psu
2 WD 120 gb sata hd's
2 NEC 16x DL dvd's
Lian-Li PC-60 case

would enermax be a better psu than the fortron for the price? Which gfx card maker?

Looks good. Fortron and Enermax are both good PSU's, I am using an enermax and have never had any problems with it. The BFG 6800gt's seem to be popular since they come overclocked and have a lifetime warrenty, but I'm sure you be happy with it no matter what maker you choose.
 
Your system looks good. Have you considered getting the Raptors instead. I know they are not that big in size but performance I hear is awesome. You can always get a 200 GB serial for storage. Also you may want to find a motherboard that supports NCQ that is available on SATA 2 hard drives. Performance increase on the HDD and not as expensive as the raptors and they come in 120 GB. Just some thoughts.
