That was NAFTA in the mid 90s that opened the floodgate, not Reagan, but Bush sr.
Revisionist history much, sorry only Clinton could have put NAFTA in place, if Bush sr. was president the Unions would have put up a huge fight, but since the unions became the Democrats lapdog (instead of trying to form a much needed third party) barely a peep was heard out of them.

And here they are grumbling again but because it's a Democratic president the outcome is obvious.

Here the lapdog is told to shut up and obey, a republican could never achieve something like this.

Labor Silent in Opposing NAFTA-Style Korea Free Trade; Here’s Where They Used to Stand

]UAW came out in support, but to our count, no other unions have said a word. Firedoglake reported last night that President Obama, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, and Members of Congress worked the phones yesterday to keep unions quiet. The Steelworkers are reportedly on the fence about supporting, and their goal for the AFL-CIO is neutrality, or silence. So far, it’s working.
Here the chief UAW lapdog goes against its members wishes and pays Obama back for their favorable treatment during the GM bailout.

UAW President Bob King decided to endorse trade pact despite strong opposition from his staff.
The UAW then joined with Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan, Vikram Pandit of Citigroup, Tom Donahue of the US Chamber of Commerce and John Engler of the National Association of Manufacturer in congratulating Obama on reaching the deal with South Korea.
And as for illegal immigration, surprise surprise , unions are all for it now, a 180 degree turn from their past stance because they knew illegal immigration allowed business to bypass labor laws that the unions fought so hard to put in place, because now it is all about votes, for themselves and their Democrat masters.

Funny how the Unions so called friends, the Democrats, do to them what their enemies , the Republicans , only wished they could.

As for Reagan whatever the official reason was given for amnesty, the unofficial one was the religious right pushed it in order to eventually get more votes in their fight against abortion since most of the illegal hispanics at that time were conservative and Christian.

For my inspiration I used Ronald Reagan. Reagan granted 3 million illegal aliens amnesty and citizenship. Every study has show they assimilated and became valuable members of American society.

My plan is to grant conditional citizenship. If you are convicted of a felony withing 10 years your citizenship is revoked and you are deported. If you go on social services for more than a year during those 10 years your citizenship is revoked and you are deported. If you can't read, write and speak English within 2 years of your citizenship your citizenship is revoked and you are deported.

Since to get citizenship you must apply, the government will take your fingerprints and you must keep the government apprised of your address and job for the first five years. Or else your citizenship is revoked.

Simple. Effective. Good for America.

They've already committed a felony.

Well, there are plenty of jobs to go around, so what could possibly go wrong?

IMO it is our responsibility to our neighbors to boycott Mexico and their government. The people of that country deserve better.

How about we offer students that get advanced degrees from our universities paths to citizenship first?

Every year we graduate international students with advanced degrees in all disciplines and promptly send them home to educate and advanced the next generation in their home country, when they could be assimilating and contributing to our nation. My girlfriend's neighbor completed his PhD in an engineering field and they promptly sent him home (trying to find a way to come back now), her labmate will get a MS in EE in one semester and she is desperately trying to find a way to stay here after graduation.

The best and the brightest from around the world come to America legally to be educated and many of them want to stay and become Americans after they graduate. Yet, we care only about catering to people that cross into the country illegally?
