Question Here's an odd one, copy not working

I have a directory with files a little 1MB each. I type "copy somechars*.extension newname.extention", and it seems to work fine.

But the original file is over 1MB, and the new file is 100K. Repeated it a few times, typed in more of the original filename, no change.
