Here's a picture of my wiener

Didn't feel like going to the grocery store tonight so I found some hot dogs, thick-sliced applewood smoked bacon, and a block of cheddar cheese and gruyere cheese in the fridge. Cut the dogs in half lengthwise, put the cheese in-between, wrapped with bacon and baked for 20 minutes at 420 F.

Turned out better than expected. Not bad for a quick and lazy fix. Naturally, bacon makes everything better.

Thanks to my lovely wife and, of course, Brett Favre the for inspiration for the thread title.

pre cook the bacon about halfway and add the cheese under the broiler right at the end for more awesomesauce

i remember when they first starting selling OM cheese dogs. was great the first time you heated one up then bit into it to have your throat scalded with a blast of molten cheese under pressure.

Been there, I think I still have a scar. 🙁

But it tastes so good for the split second you still have taste buds. 😀

Already mentioned that to the wife. If there's a next time I'll definitely pre-cook the bacon first. Either that or I won't use thick-sliced bacon because it takes so long to crisp up.

It's pretty rare that I cook a heart-attack on a plate like that though so it may be a while.

Best way to cook hot dogs is still to split them down the middle and fry them in butter and then eat them on a bun that's also been fried in butter.

I made them exactly that way last time we had dogs, but they were also smothered in some home-made chili topped with some red onions and red pepper soaked in a vinaigrette. Wanted something different this time.
