Here's a Kickstarter you should take a look at, Mini-MicroSD

Well, it is just like a SD card reader that you use on your computer, except it is for Android tablets and smartphones that have MicroUSB port. You can use it to read/write MicroSD cards, copy files between your phone/tablet and a MicroSD card.

It supports MicroSDHC cards up to 32GB (max capacity by SDHC standard), and MicroSDXC cards up to 64GB (max capacity available on the market). SDXC standard supports cards up to 2TB -- this reader should support future MicroSDXC cards of higher capacity up to that, but we have no way of testing it right now.

I am intrigued, especially since more and more phones and ditching the SD slots entirely.

12 dollars gets a reader, the 8 dollar tier sold out.

I've seen these for sale before at computer shows. I don't get how Kickstarter allows already-made products to be sold like that.

The most obvious answer would be that Kickstarter doesn't know.

With that said, they've either gone through a lot of effort to fake this (look at those prototype pictures), or they've legitimately created their own adapter.

Haven't read it all, but does it do anything that USB OTG doesn't already do?

It is usb otg, but much smaller & for micro sd cards, which I have not seen any this small. Almost ALL the otg are large, have cords(tails) & don't take micro sd.

There are Kickstarter campaigns for adapters, phone cases, wallets, 3D printers, video games, movies, plays, watches, etc. All of which already exist.

I don't think kickstarter does any screening just like they do not guarantee your money will not go to a scam artist.

I like it and just did the $12. Right now I have an OTG cable which connects to a USB card reader into which I plug in my my micro-SD card. This will be much more convenient.

Nothing terribly interesting as they exist already.

What I'd like to see is a battery case with OTG microSD and hub support.

A protective case with a battery, a microSD slot and maybe even a USB port. It'd be bulky but only about as much as an Otterbox.

Am I the only one who thinks something like that would be great?

Looks like an easy way to break your phone and/or USB port. Needs to be more customized to wrap flush with the body width or the back of the phone somehow.

my god, 35k? that is insane for a product that had been thought of, and decided not marketable.

they don't sell those because most phones don't support it. still, I like that theyre doing this. good for them for getting that sort of cash!

Absolutely not. I don't need or want something sticking out from an edge of my phone. I'll just keep buying phones with uSD slots, and avoiding those who are making the stupid decision to cut it, and that includes Google's devices.
