I installed a SnapServer 4200 (SS). This is in an office with 8 computers all running WinXp PRO P2P, 100mbs lan.

The issues I am having is that 5-6 computers either:

1- dont automatically log into the ss. In order to log in, you need to doublclick the drive and enter the password. From this point it stays able to log in and use the ss, and shows up as a user in the snap server and will show open files.

OR

2- it does automatically log into the ss from reboot, however it does not show up as being a user in the ss nor does it show any open files for that user, though they are on it and have open files.

2 computers (well now 3 actually) are logged into the ss right from reboot and show up.
2 computers log in, but dont show up as users.
3 computers have to be logged in manually, but show up as users thereafter.

I want all 8 to automatically log in, without the need for the password, and to show up in the list of users and opened files. Currently I have made a third computer work, but I have no idea how. All computers are named differently, John, jc, ken, etc. Users are first and last names. login are the same passwords as that logged into the ss. I have tried the ss user names to be just john, and john lastname, but neither work. I have added passwords, and taken off. I updated the "update my network passwords" file multiple times, logged in as different users, etec. Cant seem to get them to work.
Any ideas of what to do, or wher to go for help to read up on? Spent all day figuring this out, and only got one to work, and no idea how either, just must have done the right combination. I tried so many of them.

I was told by Adaptec (snap server) that the username and password needs to match that of the machine and that of the ss. I have tried this. doesnt always work. In fact, 2 of the 3 that work when rebooting dont ask for user name, the third one does. All 3 dont ask for a password either.

dumbfounded, or just plain dumb.

Any help is appreciated.

Well, I went through adaptec tech support. I updated the OS on the snap server for a second time. Thought theat may have helped, but no. I think there is some issue with the way each computer is configured. Even though I thought I had configured them all to be pretty much the same, I cant get consitant reslults.

Is there a way to totally redo the networking and log in info for each computer?

Also, some comuters where named something, like "com puter" Or "spare" and now have changed the names to "john lastname" and logins as John. Could this have an issue?

On the update my network passwords, it says I will be logged into the server as "com puter\ken" not as CK\ken which is the share name to the ss. even though I change it, sometimes seems to work, sometimes no. If it wqorks one way, then it doesnt work the other way (see previous post).

If the user/pw for each login is how they connect, then yea it can affect the software and cause issues like you're seeing. I'd double check all the software stuff, if some are working fine and others arent...sounds like it could be the problem.

I appreciate the help, but what part of the "software" is the problem? How to go about debugging it? What software exactly are you refering to?

mainly the login part. I setup some software for a realtor and it required the windows user/pws to be teh same as the software login, similar situation. so i would look at both logins, and any piece of the main software that has to do with the connections
