And yet you'll still go and see the footloose remake.

What is this "footloose" of which you speak? :p

Google shows a 1984 Kevin Bacon movie...never saw it, although I do remember it...and yes, apparently, they ARE re-making that one as well...

Yet, in spite of "Yet Another Sequel" in the title...you opted to click on it...and to reply.

OK, you got me there...but what movies are completely original in that respect? MOST are based on a book or novel...it's the constant recycling of one movie that gets tiresome.

It's one thing to make a movie...then several "sequels," but to continue to re-make movies from 30 years ago instead of finding new material shows a lack of originality.

What's next? Ah-Nold Schwarzenegger as "Luke Skywalker, Terminator!" ?

This really isn't a remake though as I see it. They are just building on the existing story by filling in the backstory hinted at in the original movie as I understand things. I have not seen any of the "Planet of the Apes" movies but the original was released in 1968 and a remake was released in 2001.

Trivia: anyone remember from the original what the first word spoken by an ape was?

"No" ? it has been a long time. I keep meaning to get the whole movie set on dvd. But i keep forgetting.

Edit: I also fail to see the point in this movie. they already covered what seems to be the "plot" of this movie. Or is it suppose to be a prequel to tim burtons movie?

In regards to the yet another sequel mention in the OP, I heard on the radio this is truly the year of the sequel. It's the first time the Hollywood studios are releasing more sequels/remakes than original movies.

You do realize that America isn't the only movie audience? The movies we see here are shown all over the world, and the big movies make almost as much money over seas as they do here.

Your point is taken ... but should I care???

I live in the USA and I could care a flying flip about the studios. hen they produce a movie they are hoping for a profit. When I pay $10 or more to see a movie I expect to be entertained.

The ending of Burton's movie left me feeling violated.

Anyhow ... Hollywood no longer gets a cent of my hard-earned money and I am happier for it. Ce la Vie ...

Then you are the most qualified person here to make this assessment.

That's what I was wondering. Is this a remake of IV or is it supposed to take place right after IV but before V?

I'm guessing you are probably correct in your instinct that it will deal with what happened after the unspeaking ape/slaves rallied to Caesar, which is the end of Conquest, simply because we crave more violence in film now. But add to that, the last scene from Conquest is nearly identical to the teaser video, which would be odd for a teaser to show the end of the movie.

That's not to say that the original simple character-driven escape/ascension plot couldn't be done again, and well; I just don't see it coming out of today's Baysplosion studios. They'll probably fuck with it in all sorts of ways, but it will most resemble Conquest.

Good thought.

I don't understand why people get angry with remakes/reboots/prequels. No one is forcing you to see them - just don't watch the movie. Simple. Some people act as though it has some effect on the original film - "oh they're killing my favourite movie" or some shit. I don't understand it at all. Like the guys who get angry at Lucas for tweaking Star Wars. Why get angry? JUST DON'T WATCH THEM!

Back to this movie, that is some damn good cgi.
Weta Studios, pride of New Zealand :p I actually hope to work for them one day. It's awesome that the studio is picking up so much work these days, it's a decent amount of money going into the NZ economy.

If anyone wants to watch a great, sci-fi, original movie(s), go watch Moon and Source Code. Extremely recommend

That's not the point at least not if I make that complaint. Hollywood is seemingly out of original ideas, because for the past 10 years now and especially the last few, they have remade everything (learn to deal with hyperbole). Sometimes they give it the same title, and sometimes they do not. I would just prefer to see them make some effort. If it were Authors re-making books...

The technology, money, and content is there for Hollywood to make nothing but quality film after quality film, but it seems as if the decision makers who control all of that prefer far too often to play it safe, cut corners, and pander to mediocrity. With sequels add to that, cashing in on a brand. The people most responsible for the best movies get the least credit, and until that changes, Stupidwood will continue to release a far too high proportion of garbage. There are more excellent books being published now that at any time. But writers in Hollywood are disrespected, underpaid, and have little power in the post-writing creative process, over-ridden by bad editors, bad directors, big bad producers, and sometimes even narcissistic nincompoop actors. Think of being a writer with a college degree and then having Jessica Simpson alter her lines. I often wonder how many terrible movies were actually some good unpublished story by somebody that now serves coffee at Barnes & Noble?

That writer's strike they had out there didn't come from nowhere. That was a groundswell action, but in the end they conceded. Sad.
