Updated at 3:46 p.m.: Cedar Park police said the suspect in Sunday’s early morning shooting outside a Wal-Mart is Soloman Onwukaife, 18, who they say used a handgun to shoot four people.
Police say Onwukaife remains in an area hospital with facial wounds that don’t appear to be a result of gunfire and will be booked upon release. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
The shooting happened at about 4:30 a.m. during an altercation in the store’s parking lot, following a dispute earlier at a party near Cedar Park, Police Chief Henry Fluck said.
“There was a disturbance at that party and many of the individuals involved agreed to meet at the Wal-Mart to settle the disagreement,” Fluck said.
Fluck did not name any of the four victims, all of whom he said were involved in the fight and were 18 or 19 years old.
Fluck said of the four victims sent to the hospital, one has been released and the other three are in critical but stable condition.
Updated at 11:45 a.m.: Authorities said today that one of the four people who was shot drove himself to a Williamson County hospital, where he was being treated for gunshot wounds that were not considered critical.
Updated at 10:35 a.m.: Cedar Park Police Capt. Mike Harmon said the majority of the Wal-Mart at 201 Walton Way is open again. The entire store was shut down following an early morning shooting in a parking lot where four people were injured, Harmon said.
In a news release, Harmon said police believe “that a group of people met in the parking (lot) of the (Wal-Mart) for an altercation, and that is when at least one person started shooting.”
“No Walmart employees or customers were injured in this incident,” Harmon said.
Updated at 9:45 a.m.: Four people were shot and hospitalized, according to Williamson County EMS officials.
A fifth person, the suspected shooter, was also hospitalized for evaluation, EMS officials said.
Earlier: Multiple people have been hospitalized this morning after a shooting in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in Cedar Park, police said.
An unidentified suspect is in custody following what police described as an altercation that occured about 4:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the store off U.S. 183 and FM 1431.
“The store is shut down, but that’s Wal-Mart’s doing, until our investigation in the parking lot is done,” said Cedar Park Police Capt. Mike Harmon.
Harmon said police were unsure how many victims were hospitalized or how the altercation began. No store employees were injured or involved, Harmon said.
Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that five people had been shot. Four people were shot, but five people, including the suspected shooter, were hospitalized.
