My job sucks (Although I'm glad I have one at the moment) and it's time for a VACATION!!!! So the wife and I are heading to Maui for 12 days of R & R (Rest and "Rompin" 😀 ). To those who have been there, does anyone have some ideas as to where to go, what to see, etc.?

Thanks! I'll be playing in Vegas next.....ah.....naa, I guess not.

So, any ideas?? We're going to do the basic snorkeling, take the bikeride down the volcano....just didn't know if anyone has some other ideas.

Save yourself the hassle of the Hana Highway... it takes about a day, and the Seven Springs is not that interesting. It is definately interesting though... lots of great views.

If you wanna go snorkelling, take a trip that goes to Lanai. It is like 7 square miles (private island), but the beaches are public. It is very secluded and like the cleanest beach there. That was my favorite part... (Snorkelling, then they take you to a beach on Lanai to lay around, eat and swim) Lanai is also the island that Bill Gates rented for his wedding. 😀

everyone I know who's been there can't stop praising their time there... and they always say it wasn't long enough. 12 days... should be great. We'll be there for 7 days in Sept, right after 4 days in Kauai. Wish it were more like 9:2 ratio though. 😉

I enjoyed the ride out to Hana. The trip is slow and long, but we stopped a lot to take pictures. At the 7 sacred pools there is a nice waterfall you can hike up to. They say that you should turn around once you get to the 7 pools, but my family just kept on driving. The road is actually pretty good. It was only dirt in some places, and even then, fairly flat and well packed. I really enjoyed the views on that side of the island.

Yeah, I'm glad we have more time. At first, we were looking at only 6 days, but that's way too short.

Awsome! Thanks.

We were there in March. Go to the "Old Lahaina Luau" (spelling probably incorrect). Although it is the only luau I've ever seen, my wife and I thought it was really great. We both agreed that it was the highlight of our trip.

Also, somewhere on the southwest side of the island my wife and I noticed a lot of cars pulled over on the side of the road at a beach, and a lot of local-looking people in the water snorkeling, swimming, etc. We went to Snorkel Bob's, got some gear, and had a great time snorkeling in a "local" spot. There are several places like this on the island, just look for a few cars. The locals know the best spots, so don't be shy.

Haleakela National Park is really cool, but you better be prepared for cold weather at the top. You gain a lot of elevation in the drive, and it gets cold and windy. If the weather is cloudy at all, skip this trip. You need a perfectly clear day, or the mountain will be entirely clouded over at the top any you won't be able to see 50 feet into the fog.

Drive the road to Hana. It will take most of a day, but the scenery is incredible. Stop often. The only drawback here is that the road is narrow and twisty, so if you get carsick easily you might want to think twice about this one. While you are on the north shore, you will be near the area where world-class wind surfers do their thing. Its fun to watch.

Go to the Maui Dive Shop (there should be a few around the island) and pick up a copy of the Maui Dive Guide. It's free. It gives you a map of the island and where the best snorkeling spots are. It also lists if they are beginner, intermediate, or advanced. And it gives you pictures of the fish you'll see and what they are called. That guide helped my wife and I out SO MUCH. It even gives you tips on where to park for free!

Also, go check out Warren & Annabelles magic show. It is very entertaining and you will laugh all night. Tell them you guys are celebrating a special event and they'll put you in the front row. That show was one of the highlights of our trip.

I guarantee you will have a great time. I wish I was going again. Good luck!
