Phelps should be arrested for reckless endangerment, because all of that "congregation" are getting closer and closer to catching at least a beatdown and at worst... well, there was the story about the vet who lost his legs that was planning on arming up and heading over to one of their protests...

Just ignore them. Its like a cat that comes to your door. You keep feeding it, it will only come back and probable bring more with it.

Sure they aren't more like raccoons? Always starting shit, even if you don't feed them.

People say a lot of things in the throes of grief, shaking a fist at god is understandable in those moments.

In that quote, however, I really find nothing objectionable at all. I don't believe in god, so maybe that colors my bias somewhat, but her acceptance of who god is, or what he does, would be shared by most "believers" as truth. God never promises a perfect life to those who believe, only that he hears their prayers. The story of Job and the suffering and death of Jesus are but 2 small examples on that theme.

The WBC are scumbags, let them protest and be rightly ridiculed for the morons they are.

Phelps is like a toddler throwing a fit. Just ignore him.

ANY attention you give him feeds his tantrums.

Somebody needs to slash the tires on their church van again. Then watch them drive around trying to them them replaced, and have everyone tell them to take a hike.

Unlike small town venues funerals the WBC usually picks to disrupt, the Elizabeth Edwards funeral is very likely to be jam packed with celebs, and the powerful in Washington. And maybe a few SCOTUS members.

If ole Phelps really PO's quite a few of the powerful, he may just discover he finally bit off a wee mite more than he can chew. The negative publicity the powerful can generate in spades may be the least of Phelp's worries, because if the the collective
US government decides its time to fix his wagon, they have Sooooooooooooooooooo many ways to do it.

That and the fact the WBC is going to be a target of opportunity for all kinds of politicians and Celebs to stand up to, and they can extract more mileage out of the WBC
than the WBC can.

They could start by revoking any tax-exempt status they may have.

Here's more http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7020767211?Westboro%20Baptist%20Church%20plans%20to%20protest%20Elizabeth%20Edwards%20funeral

http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/12/09/kansas.edwards.picket/index.html

"The members of the Church, based in Kansas, are planning to gather at 12:15 p.m. to protest against Edwards for issues relating to her personal life which the church regards as offensive, reports stated".

So they are upset about issues relating to her "personal life".
I'm not all that familiar with the Edwards family and their beliefs, I wonder what they could be referring to?
Anyway, I find this disturbing and hope their vehicles break down on the way there.

Clearly US Citizens die because of the US being nice to Gays and God hates Gays. Obviously.

I have a lot of respect for the woman. She had the capacity to call a spade a spade.

Even in her final statement she made no mention of God.

Ignoring them hasn't worked in the past, why would it work now?

They've never been fully ignored. Not once.

Phelps has a LONG history of seeking attention. If he can't get poitive attemtion, he'll get negative attention. It doesn't matter to him, he just wants attention. That's why he ramped up the protests to include military funerals. The higher profile the funeral, the more likely he is to attend.

If anybody shows up to her funeral to protest they should all be arrested.
