Solution: always order takeout, then eat at home without having to deal with a noisy environment, whiny babies, people talking loudly on cellphones, etc etc etc.

You must be single.

Eh, just go the Dave and Busters route. Put your name in for a table, go play video games for an hour, eat... play more video games.

Will you require the customers have a credit card on file when they place the order because if the wait time is long, they might leave after ordering.

Correct, nor do I intend to go to many restaurants when/if I'm not. I've been to them with people already. I really don't get the attraction. But then, I also don't get the big deal with theaters. Uncomfortable, crowded seating (no sofas, no recliners), excessively loud, idiots talking during the movie, no pause/rewind option, and expensive.

Some restaurants will usually let you order ahead.

However; if you do this and your table takes longer than you thought...don't hold it against the restaurant and esp. your server because your food sat.

Do all of you really want to go out to eat, eat, and be out in 10 minutes.

I like going to a long dinner and eat for an hour. Let the meal take its time and make it a nice night out rather than a stop.

When I go out to eat a big part of it is the socializing. I don't care if it takes 20+ minutes to prepare the food, thats not the only reason I came.

I'll just go to McDonalds if I want fast food.

The whole experience of a restaurant (at least my opinion) is to sit down with friends/family, talk for some time before the food comes then enjoy the food talk for a little longer/drink some wine and then go home. Not wait for the table/sit down/eat immediately/maybe talk/leave...that just doesn't sound right to me. Also, I'd say the longer you wait the more appetizing the food is -- as long as the wait isn't rediculous and then your just pissed off.

Folly. Folks don't go to a restaurant where there is even a chance of waiting just to eat but rather for the social aspect. A reservation can be made but it is still not to eat immediately but rather to be seated at the table promptly where waiting awaits for drinks and then appetizers and so on to ostensively enjoy each others company and the atmos.

Personally, I don't care for restaurants in the best conditions and sure as fark don't wanna wait to be seated but if I am going to be there it's not just to stuff my face as quickly as possible 'cause eating is secondary at that point. That's right: I said restaurants are not for eating. Wanna eat immediately? Get takeout or better yet plan ahead and stay home.

seriously, why did it take so long for someone to say this? what kind of decent restaurant would you want to go to when you ate the second you sat down?

An excellent meal at a restaurant isn't about getting in and out as quickly as possible; it's about taking your time and really enjoying good food and the company you're with. Of course, you won't find that at any of the chains. Chains essentially serve pre-packaged food so that it's all alike and consistant across their locations.

I'm talking about a real restaurant, run by Italians from the Old Country. As you're seated, the waiter introduces himself to you and brings your table a fresh loaf of bread. You get to start on some bread while you look at the menu and pick out your drinks. Then, when the waiter comes back, there's a nice garden salad with an excellent variety of lettuces (of course, no iceburg.) You order your drinks and a nice appetizer. After the appetizer, a light soup. Then, the main course. Then dessert. And, if you're lucky, maybe the owner will wander over to your table and have a toast with shots of sambuca or something.
