I know the retail cards came with a o/cin program with the card and i also read some reviews on it also and it seemed to o/c very well cause of the heatsinks with the program.

The retail version of the 9800 XT comes with the oc program in it. It does not come with the retail version of the 9800 Pro....

hercules included their own overclocking utility with their 9800 pro.

YES . . . follow the directions CAREFULLY - only the 256/256 is the 'true - xt'
(for this HERCULES one - read page 12 "Flashing the 128 MB radeon!!!)

i ordered from NewEgg yesterday (it WAS $223 shipped - i made a thread about it in HD) and got it today (16k points in 3dMark01 and 6K in '03) but have been playin' games instead of flashin it (no need to really; Thief III, DeuSex II and ALL the latest games and demos run GREAT with the Radeon Pro as it is)

Either way, unless you want to spend BIG bucks for an x800 or 6800; a Radeon Pro - 256bit/128MB is the minimum you should look for - will be GREAT for ANY current games (including i think Doom III and HL II)

I just ordered on one these cards from Overstock.com. I got a 20% off coupon thru techbargins.com.

I got mine for $182 shipped.

what I like about this card is that it comes with a bunch of heatsinks on the front and back. Also has a cool looking blue GPU fan and also includes an easy to use overclocking utility. so this baby was really designed by Hercules to be overclocked.

All the speed comparision tests I saw showed it ran the same speed as the ATI Radeon cards.

I read about 5 reviews on the card and all were positive and all had good success with overclocking.

So for 20% off, no tax and $2.95 shippping and the extras mentioned above I thought this was a HOT deal.

I just got the card today in the mail (damn coast 2 coast shipping) and it looks awesome in my blue case its nice and bright and it oc's pretty decent with the ocing program that it came with from Hercules and im also gonna try ATITool and Radlinker to see if i can find a better stable clock speed.

I think you can still mention Storage Review and get free shipping from HyperMicro.. then again, that deal might be quite dead by this point :)

This is a little off topic but out of all the graphic cards I've used the ones made by Hercules are the only ones that have failed over time. Specifically, the GeForce 2 64 Pro and the GeForce 2 Ultra 64 both failed in different systems. These were at the time expensive cards. (at least for me) Neither card was overclocked or modified, nor were the systems they were in. Just an observation.

I ordered one of these babies yesterday thanks to you guys. I couldn't resist the blue pcb and led. I think someone posted this above, but is this card the R360 core that can be overclocked to XT speeds?

Interesting that the only way to get to the Hyper Microsystems page with the Hercules 9800 Pro is by using the link in the original post. Search their site any other way and you can't find it... Strange.

this is a pretty old card and not manufactured any more, chances are that it's an r350 card. but there's not much performance difference between the pro and xt anyway, just overclock it.

i purchased this card, and just got it into my setup (new 2600+ not oc'd yet, and abit nf7-s), but when i try to use the hercules overclock feature the max that i can get is 385/344 core/mem. i can set it higher than this but the second i click apply it just goes back to 385/344. anybody else have the same problem? or know how i can get around it?

The card has a certain multiplier you have to reach (I think it's every 7 or 8 MHz ), so try jumping up to 392/351 or somewhere thereabouts and see if it sticks. HTH.
