i just got a hercules game theater xp, i'm trying to run it under windows xp and it seems to be having some problems. it makes distorted noises. i was wondering if anybody else has this problem, or if it's a driver issue. also the problems comes and goes, but is more often than not making strange sounds. i'm also running a kk266plus with onboard sound disabled, 1.2 @ 1.4ghz

It's a drive issue. Hercules won't release XP drivers till October either, and they seem to be quite stingent on that. You might be able to find some help on the Hercules Audio forum about this, but from what I've seen you seem to be getting issues that others are getting.

People are dumping these cards left & right because of crappy driver support (check the Hercules BBS).

There are a few work arounds for XP, but none work very well. The biggest problem is you can't have over 256megs on memeory installed in XP & nowdays almost everyone does.

I spent a week trying to get mine to work in XP. I finally gave up & installed a SB Live 5.1 Platinum which works perfectly. As an unexpected bonus, it fixed some unexplained crashing problems that had been occuring in a few of my sons games.

you can't have over 256 megs of memory for XP?! What are you talking about?
I've read that win98 has problems with over 320 megs, performance decreases with more RAM, I heard win2k can efficiently use all RAM.
I find it hard to believe that XP, a combo of 2K+98+ME, will stutter with more RAM....:disgust:
