Hercules Fortissimo II in Win XP Dos Mode?

I have the game Bard's Tale along with a few older dos games and they run just great under win xp with the exception of the sound. There is none. I check in the file autoexec.nt which I believe is the file used when running a program in dos mode. The line used for the sound is SET BLASTER=A220 I10 D1 P330 T3 which sets the card as a sound blaster 2 compliant card which is the only type win xp can use. Will my card be able to work in win xp dos mode? Any suggestions on how to get it to do it? Thanks.

Not that this probably helps any. I have the same card and OS, and I could never get my sound operating in DOS mode. I think it has something to do with WPX not really having a DOS mode, but running everything in a shell emulator. This was announced long before the release of WPX, so it wasn't really a surprise to me. But it is a little annoying. I have quite a few DOS games I still like. Oh well, technology moves on....

Anyone else know a trick?

What you need is VDMSound, it basically emulates Soundblaster under Windows 2000/XP. It should work with any soundcard. The directions are a bit confusing, but there's not much to do. Anyway I was able to play 4DBoxing and 4D tennis under WinXP using these. It should work for you.
