Hercules fdx Radeon 8500LE 128 meg or chaintech gf3 ti 200

i only have those two choices
i hear the radion can't oc to 8500 levels where the gf3 ti 200 overclocks to ti 500 levels
same price!!
i am planning for oc to the limit of the onboard fans no add-on fans or heatsinks
what is better and any probs or experiences?

R8500, hands down. It's better in virtually every respect.

2D image quality, DVD playback, 3D feature set, 3D performance, TV-Out implementation etc etc.

The Ti200 is a fine board in it's own right with solid driver support, but the R8500's only a few dollars more and is a bit better in pretty much every way.

R8500LE can generally o/c to a bit above Retail R8500 clockspeed, Ti200 can generally overclock to roughly Ti500 speeds.

but...guys
in all reviews i have read about the hercules one it has a default mem speed of 240 instead of 250 and the mem is rated 4 nano(whatever) so every oc to the mem goes wrong
they say that the most they got out of it is 290/250 from 250/240
that is nothing compared to the gforce 3 ti 200 (chaintech) which can go from 175/400 to 240/500(ti 500) speed and even some have it higher without any additional cooling
so i lean to the chaintech one,don't u agree with me?

please please don't tell me about the new geforce 4 ti 4**** because it is very high prices here ~600$

I think I'd have to agree with you there. I've used the 8500 and liked it a lot, but never tried overclocking it. I have two friends who did-and not by much according to them-and one had artifacts all over the place while the other experienced extremely choppy gameplay in just about every game he has. And I may have read the same reviews that didn't speak too highly of the 8500's overclocking ability.

I personally own Gainwards 128MB Ge3 Ti200 with the factory-approved overclock right out of thje box-200MHz x 460MHz - regular Ge3 speed. I have this thing comfortably overclocked to 250MHz x 550MHz and the performance is solid and smooth with no evidence of being pushed at all.

That obviously is not the normal performance of a Radeon 8500. You can get smooth gameplay out of most games with even a lowly regular Radeon properly setup. You must be in the UK to be limited to just those boards? Either card would be a good performer.

No, it's not the NORMAL performance of an 8500 - I was referring to an overclocked example of performance and how, in that sense, the Ge3 ti 200 would be the better choice.

Well the Herc card definately isn't the cream of the Radeon crop, and may not overclock as well as some cards, but it certainly doesn't perform as poorly as your friend claims, properly set up. It also seems odd that your friend even has a Herc card, seeing as how you live in the States and all, and the herc card is a european market card
