No and no.

As for Hercules, their relationship with Nvidia was broken over a year ago - they are not even in the list of Nvidia certified partners.

Gigabyte and Hercules was a given, but MSI and Gainward too?! Doubt it. Those two companies are completely dependent on Nvidia for their line of cards.

Tweak3d.net had a bit on the soon to be released Gigabyte 8500 card, and it comes clocked at 275/275 like ATi's.

Browsing the Rage3D forums, stumbled across a post where an individual said that ATi would be secretly using 3.3ns DDR RAM on upcoming 8500 shipments. Sounds likely since they did the same thing with the Radeon64 VIVO cards.

I wonder how tightly ATI will control their new partner manufacturers. I believe they are fairly inexperienced with it. There is Althon Micro who made the LE which was good, but did they actually manufacture the card or was still making them? I am worried that Hercules will make Radeons with their typical poor quality 2d and ATI will be consigned to the land of poor 2d. I have never seen or heard much about Gigabyte's older offerings so I dont know about their manufacturing quality either.

yeah!!!!
now they will sell ati and kyro boards...

nvidia is hurting manufactures like 3dfx did with the STB deal (in a different way), nvidia want to control what the manufactures sell...
that is very very annoying for manufactures like hercules...

There are too many people selling Nvidia based cards, and with benchmarks so close to each other, the only way you can stand out from the crowd is to lower your price, and that's never a good thing for a manufacture to do.

The same thing will happen once Ati has everyone making cards based on their chipset. It's just going to take awhile. This kind of action will lower Nvidia's price per chip to their product partners, which is surely what they (the board manufactures)wanted.

ATi manufacturs all third party Radeon cards. The cards are merely sold to the thir party to include any extraneous extra etc.
Visual quality and the like will be 100% identical.

Competition is always good, so this is great IMHO.

I can't say I'm surprised to see Hercules dumping nVidia. Ever since they produced their Kyro board they've been on iffy grounds w/nVidia.
Rumours have indicated for a long time that nVidia had been 'delaying' shipments of GF2/3 chips to Hercules, and bumping prices in them up slightly to hurt Hercules ability to compete against other nVidia board manufacturers. The fact that Hercules nViudia based boards have been in somewhat limited availability ever since then kind of indicates said rumours may have some validity to them.
At the very least, nVidia removed Hercules from theiur list of supported partners immediately after Hercules started producing their Kyro's.

<< So say goodbye to Gigabye, MSi very shortly, Gainward, and now Hercules >>

MSI?
Not likely. MSI manufactures nVidia's reference boards, and manufactures boards for at least 4 other nVidia board manufacturers. It would be insane for MSI to jeapordize all of that. MSI would be the last company I could see leaving nVidia.

Gainward... maybe. I don't see it happening anytime soon but it's possible. Gainward survives off of the enthusiast market, and if ATi starts taking off even larger then they have in said market or if they take the clear performance crown then i could see Gainward producing ATi boards.

Well, Rolls Royce could make ATI cards and I still wouldnt buy one :)

BTW, MSI is no longer the ref designer for NV, Visiontek is. I think you are just seeing some re-organization within the Taiwanese makers. It is a very competitive market, and most of the ones who are switching arent very big volume for NV. Most also deal in the Chinese and Asian markets.
Hercules doing ATI isnt surprising. They have been on shaky ground with NV since Kyro. I doubt it will hurt NV very much. I see Gainward, MSI, ASUS, Leadtek, Visiontek as the big 5

It'd be nice if nVidia didn't bully manufacturers...I wonder what they'll do to Gigabyte.

Visiontek produces the reference boards for nvidia.

Everyone also hear about Elsa dropping the consumer market.

I think NVidia may have alienated alot of customers. Your avereage cumputer guy usually wound hand over $400 for a vid card like a ti500, but sitting right next to it is a Radeon8500 for $250, still pricey for joe avereage comp guy, but a hell of alot easier to swallow considering the other things it can do.
I remeber reading a interview with some one from Nvidia around the time the GF3 was going to be released, where he had stated nvidia believed that they had pretty much reached the limit of what consumers would be willing to pay for a comp upgrade.

Isn't GeForce 4 being released soon? I can know a few guys who plan on grabbing it up right away they plan on spending around 400 - 500 for it. :D (My wife said no though :frown: )

<< Hercules will build cards based on ATI chips like R8500 and R7500 in future as well as boards based on ST Micro / PowerVR chips. Hercules claims that they are still open to NVIDIA but don´t expect any new cards based on NVIDIA chips from Hercules anymore in the near future. >>

Good to hear someone backing ATI. Maybe Hercules can come up with their own custom drivers so we can see these 8500/7500 boards reach their full potential! Let's hope others follow! :)
