It appears that 2 short weeks after the debut of the Hercules Prophet III (Geforce3), the card is being discontinued. The early indications are Nvidia and Hercules are not seeing eye to eye on Guilemot's aggressive launch and support of the Kyro II based Prophet 4500.

Sounds like Nvidia is starting to act like another Microsoft.

Could be true. NVIDIA's web site lists the Hercules Prophet 2MX 400 but not the Prophet III.

A post by the Hercules forum moderator on the Hercules website disputes this rumor that he Prophet III is being discontinued.

I'm not so sure I believe him as a forum moderator is unlikely to be privy to high level discussions of this nature and would likely be one of the last to know.

Here's an example of what I mean. A few months ago on the Nascar Heat forum, a public beta patch was released. The forum moderator who was an employee of the game developer disputed the patch and said it was a fake since he surely would have known if a beta patch was to be released.

As it turned out, the patch was genuine and the moderator looked like an idiot for not knowing what the heck he was talking about.

A couple of observations.

The Prophet III has not been available at the Hercules store in over 2 weeks. Newegg used to have the Prophet III listed with the "auto-notify" button; the Prophet III is no longer listed at Newegg. The Elsa Gladiac 920 is listed at Newegg w/ the "auto-notify" button.

If you go to the Hercules website, on the main page all you see is Prophet 4500 info and quotes from reviews raving about the Kyro II based board, nothing on the Propet III.

Something smells fishy here. I still may get a Prophet III even if it is discontinued since I think it's the best looking Geforce3 out there. It's based on the reference design and all future Nvidia drivers will work fine on the board regardless whether Hercules puts out future driver releases of their own or not.

Killbat: Herucles or nVidia? I think it's fairly obvious...but I'm just double checking.

*Noriaki is a happy Hercules Kyro2 owner*

Hey...just a thought...
Hercules (Guillemot) is a Canadian company, as is ATi.
ATi just announced that they will be focusing on chip production and selling to 3rd party board manufacturers.

Who thinks we will see a Hercules Radeon II in the fall? Hercules have new partners now? Probably a Kyro III to a lower-midrange card. With the Radeon line carrying the mid-high :) Hercules and ATi are nice and close together (Montreal based for Herc, Toronto I think for ATi, really not that far apart ;))

Think Hercules will be the first lining up to sell ATi cards?

X14: Wouldn't that be a decrease in value? :confused::disgust:

With ATI and the Kyro II, Hercules would have a nice line of cards. Nvidia would be cutting of their nose to spite their face!

<< First up, rumors of the Prophet 3 being discontinued are false. The card is still being shipped to retail stores.
Second, the card does not have beta drivers on the installation. I still have not found out how people have come to that conclusion. The 12.00 drivers on the CD are certified drivers we used from NVIDIA, and they are official Hercules drivers. They are great drivers that take advantage of the GeForce 3's new features.

Last but not least, if you are having a problem with your video card in your system, please don't take it out on us, or others on the forum. About 75% of the time, the problem stems from system configuration. For example, VIA drivers must be installed on VIA based motherboards when you are getting low FPS. Its usually not the video card that causes the problem, but newer systems that are not properly setup. You can always call our tech support @ 1-877-484-5536 for help.

Before jumping to conclusions and bashing companies based on rumors, please post a question, and I'll be glad to answer it. If I don't answer it right away, just give it a day or so, and it will have an answer to it.

Thanks & take care!

Regards,
Chris Courtois

The Asus 8200 Deluxe has DVI. And better 2D to boot. Even if this were true, its perfectly legal for Nvidia to do it.

actually hercules is just a brand name, they were bought by Guilliont, or some thing like that and they are a french company. Hercules is just easier to pronounce and has better brand recegnition so they kept the name.

I see people are still pissed off that Nvidia bought 3dfx core assests(excluding their plant in Mexico). All I can say is BOOHOO. 3dfx brought on their own demise. And if anyone says Nvidia sued 3dfx to death, thats just BS, 3dfx sued Nvidia(case was still out there at the time Nvidia bought out 3dfx, which is probably one of the many main reasons Nvidia bought 3dfx), two years later Nvidia decided to file suit against 3dfx. 3dfx was the giant, Nvidia tripped that giant after the giant tied its shoe laces together. If 3dfx wasn't incompetent in management(ie: they never should of bought STB), they would still be around today...

I just hope that if ATi sells there chips to Hercules (and/or to anyone else) that they have a clear guideline that companys can not use cheap a** components and cut corners w/ ATI's chips just to save a dollor. Best thing about ATi was that they used Quality parts for there boards, i'd hate to see that go down the tubs!
