I plan on Durelene 1/2 ID 3/4 OD. I decided on barbs because I really can't afford compression. I used zipties on my previous builds, but I'm tired of getting my hands scratched all the time. And I refuse to wear gloves.

The ONLY wiretie I would consider is the Thomas & Betts with the stainless steel tooth.

Double ring clamps are much better. Even better is to use the proper fitting in the first place! (Parker fittings) 😛

If they allow me to build a WC rig it's going to be a monster. :Q
 
I agree with Gillbot. I would use Miniature Hose Clamps (or Jubilee clips as they are called in England).

Once they are on and tightened, they will never accidently come off, although you have to be careful that they don't cut into the pipe.

P.S. We use them in the cooling system pipe work in cars.

worm clamps for tubing that large in diameter.

I heard some people get away with zipties on that size, however i dont recomend it.

3/4 you need good ol fashion screw drive worm clamps. However Evil a friend on XS is making some custom anodized clamps. Vendors like petra should see them soon hopefully.

But 5/8 OD tubing zipties dominate.

How about doubling the Herbies--install side-by-side, two to a barb? That would look cooler than the worm clamps. Those remind me too much of working on the family tractors.


Edit: It would cost $0.10 more per joint for the Herbies when doubled. Another downside is that they are not reusable. Worm clamps FTW.

Just out of curiousity would you guys use stainless steel clamps?

The reason that I ask is that my dad's got loads of them lying around.
 
i tried them on my first WC build and they either snapped off or just didn't provide a good seal. just stick with zip ties as they distribute the clamping power evenly and have less of a chance of coming undone.
 
Woodbutcher. I assume that they are similar to a ziptie (or tie wrap in England) where you can release the Herbie clip for re-use by wedging a screwdriver in it.

Let me re-think this. Don't the teeth get stripped when you remove them? Or, does the special Herbie removal tool prevent that?

If they can be removed and re-installed without too much problem, I will go with them.

Maybe I'll do one box with worms and one with Herbies.
 
If you look close at the link for those clips you'll see the have teeth on both sides of a tongue, to force them open by prying would damage the teeth, what I do is twist them to the side with needle-nose pliers. Herbie clip removal tool,

Zip ties are different in that they have one tooth on a strap like a belt.

Thanks, WoodButcher, I'm going to use Herbies! I'll experiment to see if I need to double them up (which I think might be a cool look.)
