Paypal reversed the charges. I thus have a negative $692 balance. I still have $802 waiting to transfer to my checking account. If I close my account what would happen?

Cant close it.

Look, you've been scammed. Period. I mean, theres not much we can do for you here so you might want to go kick a trashcan or something.

Perchance, was this on ebay?

Why are you being so rude to this person?

What do YOU stand to gain by your rudeness?

Cause he's a rude SOB. Sorry to say that David, but that's how you act sometimes.

I do agree with PsychoAndy (David?).

I am just looking for any possibility.

The way I see it I have maybe have 5% odds of getting something back.

If I do not try I have 0% chance.

I can afford the loss but hate the thought.

Any ideas are helpful. Flying to the Phillipines is not -- then again I could be their when it is delivered (Joke!). That would give me the weekend in Manilla.

Could I file a claim with the Global Express Mail? Rifling maybe?
That may up my odds by 1%.....

Filing a false claim is a federal offense IIRC. Besides that, you need to prove it.

How you you plan to prove that your package was picked thru when the other party is selling it on a streetcorner in manilla?

Just received an email that the funds will be resent.

Is "admin@zerogear.net" a trackable email address? I am unsure of how to track.

This one is interesting. I was able to contact someone (after 18 calls that were useless) at USPS to have the laptop returned to sender. I tried on 10/14 but no one could help due to the Columbus day holiday. I received true help on 10/15 but it had lefted San Francisco the day before (on 10/14 when USPS was closed). I was told that it would have been easy to stop in San Francisco but not after it shipped.

Anyway -- the Phillipines was sent a request to return to sender on 10/15. The laptop was not delivered so it looks like they received the request. Laptop would have been delivered around 10/18. I have not received the laptop back and the Phillipines has not responded to the USPS. I was told that on 12/10 I can file a claim for loss (45 days after initial tracking request).

Since the item was not delivered I will potentially get $500 back. Or maybe before then I will receive the laptop back. Or (worse case) it could be delivered -- but doubtful.

I will post back when it is concluded. To get to the point to have a return to sender put on the package took 20+ phone calls -- very difficult!

Anything over $50 and I withdraw it from my account, with my Paypal debit card, instantly at an ATM.

But for the task at hand..... Call the Phillipine's US Embassy..... or something. They will probably catagorize it as International Fraud or something and go arrest the guy.... Hell if I know. But with a price tag of $600 it is definately more than a misdameanor.

The US embassy in another country does not have jurisdiction to arrest that country's citizens

Yes, but they can help you contact the local police.....and they would have much more influence on them than an individual would.

I never thought of trying the US Embassy -- wish I had thought of that. I did fill out numerous forms on-line that should have provided some assistance. At this point I am on a hold till 12/10.

Basically it is stuck at:
Your item left the United States from SAN FRANCISCO AMC at 7:29 pm on October 14, 2002. No further information is available for this item.

Doubt it will be delivered or sent back to me. I would guess that someone in the Phillipines postal service has a new laptop. That's fine though since I will be able to file insurance.
