I need your help. My Grandpa is an artist, and has hundreds of paintings that he made, maybe thousands. Well, A site in japan has a site, and is making and selling reproductions of all his paintings! he doesn't have his paintings copyrighted. is there a way he can stop the japanese site from selling reproductions?

Just so you know what im talking about, im working on a site for him: www.4anatoly.com

Thanks,

Kaputnik

If he doesn't have any copyrights then you can't do jack sh1t, sorry to say but you or your grandpa should've thought about that.

i know that just by being a canadian citizen automatically all our artwork is copyrighted

im sure there is something like that for americans?

I'm a lawyer. Yeah, I got my degree while I was in my 11th grade of high school from this guy who used to be a lawyer. He got sued and became a teacher. He tought me everything to know about law in about 10 hours.

yeah.
ill help you.

Go to Japan, kill offending japanese. Then procede to destroy all works they have reproduced. Contact me when you are done.

A bunch of us could email them asking to buy the paintings for $900 plus 2 day UPS shipping. And then when they think they've made thousands of dollars... we'll send them a link to the thread and kill all the fun! WEEE!

Thats not a bad idea

Actually, original artwork is probably automatically copyrighted even if it isn't registered in the copyright office. You definitely need to hire a lawyer though. It also is probably not a bad idea to email, or write the entity in Japan selling these copies and notify then that they need to cease selling them or you are going to take legal action. They might just deicde it is not worth the hassle.......
