HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just recieved my custom built comp from a friend of mine, he had it for over a month while installing drivers, software, etc... with no problems. Now I picked it up about a week ago and i had no problems until last night, it would just not load windows. Took it to my friend and he was forced to re-format it, no big deal since i had almost everything backed up, but now the same problem is happening, that being
The specs are a Pentium 4 2.0 ghz, Geforce 4 Ti4600 video card, an Abit IT7 Motherboard, a Artec Dvd-Rom, 2 40Gig Maxtor Harddrives and Corsair DDRAM 512 MBs.
If any one has any insight to why it keeps on doing this, especially after it worked great for over a month, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

I think it would help the people who want to solve ur prob if you detailed exactly what the boot up is like. Does it even start loading windows? Does it shutdown the comp in the middle of loading? Any specific errors? That kind of stuff.

it loads all the screens normally, then it brings up the choose how to load windows after it crashes, i.e. safe mode, previous working settings, start windows normally. If i choose either previous working settings or start windows normally, it will bring the XP loading window up, then when it usually brings up the pick user window, it just goes to a blank screen and my keyboard stops working. If I choose safe mode then it starts listing the drivers until it hits the agp driver, it just stops and freezes.
It did this before it last night, before it was reformated, and then again tonight, after it was reformated.
Hope this helps.

Ok, A little bg on Gambit's computer The processor is a 2.0a Pentium 4@ 2.7 (Full Load 65 C, Ambient 32 C), with 512 XMS 3200 corsair Ram, Retail Heatsink, Abit Siluro Ti4200, Abit It7, (2x) Maxtor d740x 40 gb quiet Drives, 19in Samsung 955df, integrated lan in the motherboard, artec 16x DVD Microsoft Office Keyboard (USB) Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 (USB) etc...

When he brought the computer over the computer was freezing on the "emergency choice" menu where you can either choose safe mode, normal, last good config etc... The computer would stall after loading either normal, or last good config. When Loading Safe mode the system would also stall after a certain dll file.

After removing the oc, trying to repair, and upgrade the os, and both failing, I just formatted and put a fresh os on (Windows XP Professional)

XP Installed fine, I ran a stress test (prime 95), and everything worked fine rebooted several times, and once again everything was problem free.

Just wanted to give a little background, it is too late right now for me to think of anything to do, maybe some fellow AT'rs can help gambit out.

Well here goes my 2 cents.
I would say the problem lies here: The processor is a 2.0a Pentium 4@ 2.7 (Full Load 65 C, Ambient 32 C)
65C is WAY hot. I realize that is at full load, but this is a P4 we're talkin about.
You need to ask yourself why in the world a P4 2.0 needs to be OC'd like that. Surely with 512 RAM and a GF4 Ti4600 your not going to have any trouble running even the most taxing games or other operations.
Overclocking to the limits can corrupt data on the hard drive. Especially with high buss speeds. This is what I believe is happening to you.
If your doing it for sport and accept the risks, then you need to start water cooling that P4 before it becomes a keychain.
Otherwise take it back to stock speed, and enjoy a cool running, reliable computer.
Again, with the hardware you have installed, there is really no application out there your box couldn't handle.
Here is a thread with similar problems as you are having. Same mobo I believe. They have some ideas on how to set it up.
I'm sure all the great OC'ers will tell you to march on and push it to the max, just remember it's your wallet that takes the hit in the end.
Good luck!

I had already taken it down to stock as soon as he brought it back over, I fairly experienced with oc'ing etc... and thanks for the tip and the link

Have you memtest-86'ed the system to see if your getting memory errors? They could account for the corruption. Also how long are you Prime testing. My P4 when it isn't stable can last up to 3 hours before it fails.

One other thing, you using a current virus scanner?
