My brother is having problems with his computer. Now we usually can fix it but this is strange. After a while after (not right away) a clean install of windows xp his computer starts acting weird. Giving him errors and says he should report it etc. Then he figures he should restart and then it tells him a file called configsystem is corrupted. He has formated (even low level formated once) to try to fix this problem but he cannot. KEeps happening after a few days of installation. He says he doesnt install any strange software. Just drivers, games, ms office etc. Hardware problem? I was thinking maybe it was his rounded ide cables he has but im not sure.

SYSTEM SPECS:

Soyo Dragon + Kt266a mobo wtih kvxa2ba1 bios
athlon 1600+ XP
512mb of crucial memory
40GB WESTERN DIGITAL 400BB HD
PNY GEFORCE 3 ti 500
Sound blaster audigy
350WATT ENERMAX POWERSUPPLY
WINDOWS XP

He doesnt have internet right now so he cannot download anything. He updated windows each time at his work place. (they let him download the updates from windows updates)

Any ideas ? Thanks

had the exact same problem on a different motherboard a few months back. pissed me off how many times i formatted/reinstalled, tried different ram, moved cards around, all kinds of stuff.

ANYWAYS, what fixed it was installing the manufacturer ide drivers off the disk that came with the mobo (i had an Abit board btw). i would say format, reinstall windows (unless its working right this moment) and when it boots up to the desktop for the first time, load the manufacturer IDE drivers instead of using the MS ones. what sucks is that i had to wait about a week before i knew for sure if it fixed it.... workin fine since then tho :p

hope this helps
