i need a little help here. i do not know much about hardware. I am want to upgrade my p2 350 to an athlon t-bird 1.4 ghz (266). I need to know what would be the best motherboard, ram and case i should get to make it go. I would also like to know which is more worth the money, a geforce2 ultra and a geforce3 (and what the main differences of them are). please help me out here. thx! 😀

well..... first off are you going to be overclocking???

this is a good setup though, i'm sure others will recommend others

msi k7master motherboard

256 megs minimum pc2100 (2400?) ddr

case? up to you, but lots like the antec sx series ones... i like my enermax cs-a1 qx-06 er somethin b/c it's cheap, looks great, and works well🙂

how much money do you have for the vid. card? unless you're HARDCORE the geforce2 ultra will fine

what hard drive(s) you have now? b/c that can be a huge speed bottleneck

oh, and you'll prob. need a new power supply if your's isn't at least 300 watts... and you'll need a heat sink for that chip... i'd stay away from anything above 39 Decibles

hey...looks like you have a good idea about where you want to start...for the mobo...i like epox's ddr solution the 8K7A...and for ram, for around 120 bux you can pick up 2 256 chips of crucial ddr ram for a total of 512 mb...the case that looks best right now is the antec sx1030 with a 300w psu...and if you are spendin that much on a video card, go for a geforce3...it will last you longer as it is a little faster and has full support for dx8 and it has programmable t&l...if you wanna spend a little less go with a geforce2 pro and you will get near-ultra performance and spend like 100 bux less

Hope this helps and happy building!!!

thx guys!
im not planning on overclocking. my harddrive is a maxtor (i think) 30 gig. its like 7200 rpm (prety sure). where can i look for these things? and does ddr ram and, i think its sdram?, is there a big diff and do they need diff motherboards?
