HELP!

a pipe dream is a goal you want but it seems desperately out of reach.

Etymology: from the fantasies brought about by the smoking of opium

Not to throw stones, but surely you can spend two seconds on google?

Thanks, I tried googling, 'empty pipe dream' but they were all using the word, rather than defining what the term meant. Thanks for your help dawg.

I have never heard the phrase "empty pipe dream". Pipe dream, yes, not empty.

Correct: The phrase you are looking for is simply "Pipe Dream".
There is no "Empty" involved in the accepted phrase.

It means something really great.

It comes from plumbers, who after a lifetime of snaking drains, only to pull out clumps of tissue and shite, go to bed and dream "empty pipe dreams" in which all pipes are clean and free-flowing. Plus, the clients are all hot and horny housewives. And they're rich. And make good sandwiches.

Mmmm.. sandwiches.
