Last night my computer was running perfectly fine. I shut it down and when I came to turn it on the next morning it wouldn't. I have a decent understanding of computers, I unplugged everything and plugged it back in. The outlet and surge protector is fine, I know its the computer but not specifically what part. I have heard to check my power supply for the problem. I have done all of the little tweaks I could and it hasn't worked.

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem? Do I need to buy a new power supply or is it too general to figure out?

-Thanks

Too general, does anything happen when the pwr switch is pressed? (Bad switch?)
If anything happens, did you try Safe Mode?
Brand/model #, OS?
What tweaks did you try?

custom built:
Amd 3700+
Nvidia 7600 GT KO video
Asus Mobo
430w PSU
1gb of ram
coolermaster case
windows xp
no tweaks
I've hit the power button, nothing happens.
If it is a bad switch how would i check?

Or is it a PSU problem?

It was working the night before and when I went to power it up the next day it didn't turn on.

The two wires of the switch connect two 2 posts on MB. Shorting the 2 posts together momentarily (insulated something, screwdriver) is the same as pressing the switch. I would guess PSU other wise??? Brand of PSU needs to be well rated.

Pray it isn't your motherboard. I've had similar symptoms where 2 of the 3 times it was the PSU. The one time that it was the motherboard it dies of a very slow death.

Do you suggest I buy a new psu? If so, any links to specifics, I'm looking for a reasonably priced one, at least 500w.
