I have the system that you can see. I used to have an ATI Radeon 9500 pro overclocked at 330Mhz GPU and 314Mhz RAM and I was able with my system to get at 1024-768 and everything high (no AA/AF) in Counter Strike Source about 80 fps in all maps with noone else inside the game.In Doom 3 with everything High(no AA/AF) about 60fps. Then I thought of buying an Nvidia 6800 to be able to play cs source at about 100 fps constant and Doom 3 at about 80-90fps constant. That is what I was hopping at least. When I got the new card then I run both games and I see in both games the same results in fps as I had with my 9500 pro overcloclocked. Only a very slight 10FPS max difference witch is not even noticeable. I do not know what is wrong and I am so dissapointed. What I am thinking is if my CPU is not enough to support the card and this limmits it or if my psu is so low since I run 3 HDD 5 fans, a CD-RW and a DVD ROM. I really do not know
If anyone has any good Ideas let me know.
Thanx!!

The card is CPU limited at 1024x768. If you want to see a bigger difference, either up the resolution, or turn on the AA/AF.

and how would that actually help? Will I get more fps if I do so in games? I think I will be limitted to these fps but what you mean probably is that if I do so I will just be able to see the difference between the two cards right?

Yup, you'll see a difference if you jack up the settings; but it won't increase your FPS. However, I know for a fact that CS:S and HL2 took a *ton* better with AA/AF on.

and what is the point then? I will have the same fps at the end... I could have kept my 9500 pro and not spend 170 pounds... Are you sure then is nothing else I can do that will give me more fps?

You have a sweet motherboard; why not toss in a 3.2GHz Prescott and watch your FPS shoot up? :D

Unfortunately, with your current system, and your current in-game settings, you will not reap the benefits of a 6800.

something else which is really weird is that I run 3D mark 03 with both cards. With my 9500 Pro i get a score of less than 4000 and with the 6800 I get almost 8500 marks.since 3d Mark checks basically everything how is this possible? Another thing I would like to ask is if there is a chance that I need a fresh install of windows and a format. Since I got the 6800 I did not format. I just uninstalled the ATI drivers and installed the nvidia ones...

Well actually, in Doom3 you should notice a bigger difference in framerates. Are you running with everything at High Quality?

The results in 3DMark03 seem right on the mark. Those are in line with all other 6800 scores I've seen.

You don't need to reformat. At the most, you can download a program called Driver Cleaner 3 and use it to remove all traces of ATi software/drivers on your computer.

well... I know that a 3.2 Prescott would be good and that a 3Ghz would be fine as well but the point is that in these 3 past months I bought a Dell 2001FP monitor with 570 pounds and the 6800 with 170 pounds which leaves me with no money:) Maybe I will buy one on Christmass if I find any money. We will see...

well even if I turn everything low and 640x480 I still get 60 fps average in Doom 3. With everything high and 1024x768 I still get 60 average. Something is really strange here...:( How is it possible to get 60fps and 80fps in games which I was geting as well with my 9500 Pro overclocked and at the same time get 5000 more marks in 3d Mark?

Make sure Vsync is turned off in Doom 3.

now just for fun I run Doom 3 with 1600x1280 and ultra high quality with no AA/AF. I am still most of the time getting 63 fps but sometimes depending on the environment colours and details it drops to 40. but I can never go above 63 whatever details I put and whatever resolutions like if 63 is the maximum you can get in this game...:(

Well I doubt your 9500 Pro would get 60FPS at 16x12 Ultra Quality; that is a good framerate.

you are CPU LIMITED. do not freak out!

3dmark 03 puts more stress on GPU performance. A game requires GPU performance and CPU performance.

you should really keep all of your system components at the same level. it doesnt make any sense to run an aging pentium 4 with a brand spanking new, top of the line video card.

I don't know if this could be it or not, but I remember that LCD monitors at 16ms (I think) have a max frame rate of 63 fps. It could be possible that you have maxed out your LCD if you are using that and it is just giving you the rate displayed.

Thanx all of you for your replies! Well... Concerning what you said about the monitor forget it because in other lower expectation games I can even get 300 fps..:) Like Q3 Arena.....
Now...
What I did was that I overclocked my CPU to 2.85 instead of 2.53. That was the maximum I could get it without changing voltages and without getting memory dumps. I used to be able to overclock it more on my previous mb. The outcome of this overclocking was that in Counter Strike Source I get now about 20fps more!!! I now strongly believe that it is my CPU..:( And I have no money to buy a new one..:( I am sure that with a 3GHz Presscot it will be absolutely fine in all games. In Doom 3 though it is still steady at 63fps:roll:
