I have XP Pro and I'm trying to format my hard drive. I was able to format all my partitions except C: because it keeps telling me that programs are running in the backround and I'm unable to continue. It won't let me.

I wanted to use DOS, but XP doesn't have it.

How do I format my C: drive?

Thanks in advance.

uh... you can't format the active partition. Are you trying to do a clean install? if so, simply pop the XP cd in and reboot. You may have to set a bios option to boot first to a CD-ROM. XP setup will let you delete/create and format partitions during installation.
