I installed my asus p4c800 e deluxe, 2.8c, and heatsink in my case. I put grounding clip for my antistatic mat on the kingwing 424 case with out a psu installed. I wore an antistatic band from the anti static mat and kept touching case without psu. Well since I had no psu in my case, do you think I messed up my motherboard and cpu due to esd? I'm getting the psu tommorrow and installing it with 1 dimm of 512 ddr 2100pc memory and vid card from this cpu to do a test boot. Am I headed in right direction? just hope I didnt learn a valuable lesson on my first build. Thanks.

He's right. I've laid a memory stick in my hand without an anti-static wrist strap and it still worked fine. People at a local computer store lay processors in their palm (core down) with a wrist strap and they work just fine. Don't worry yourself over it.

Very unlikely. There's plenty of metal in the case which functions as an electrical ground. With the wrist band connecting you to the case, PSU or not, everything would be at about the same electrostatic potential . This is what you want
 
few was worried my wife would kill me if I told her I needed to use another $450 on something she really doesnt like to begin with, lol.
 
Ok with some of my older stuff i throw it around and its all fine. Like my old GF2 Pro.. its been in my bookbag for 3 days while i was going places, no anti static bag, nothing.. And it still works fine. They make this stuff to take a beating.
