Help! XP 2100 Th. B @ 833 mhz

My system is : A7N8X non deluxe, 2 x 256 Mushkin pc2700, XP 2100 Thoroughbred B cooled by a SLK 800.

My system ran fine at 1.73 ghz for 3 weeks, and before i tried to even overclock, on a random reboot it reads my processor as a "Mobile Athlon 4" and w/ fsb @ 166 it runs at 833 mhz. If i try to overclock, it will get to 1.1 ghz. Ive tried all multipliers, ive reseated the processor, manually reset the Bios on my motherboard and updated the Bios.

I emailed Asus and the tech fed me some crap about running my fsb too high at 166 mhz frying my processor. The processor will run fine days on end, but less than half my stock speed is crap. Do i have a motherboard problem or a processor problem???

Thanks for any help

the 2100+'s multiplier is 13x(thanks LastRide🙂)
try setting it to that and the fsb to 133

The multiplier is 13 on the 2100 for 1.729GHz.Check to see if there is a jumper on your mobo for 100 and 133.Should be on 133.

ive tried to 13x multiplier and just got like 900 and some odd mhz.

My jumper is in the 133-166 position.

What did you have to do when the multiplier reset to 1100 mhz?

updated to the newest v1003 bios and still no luck :frown:

would this be a cpu or motherboard problem?

Luckily i sprung for the $5 cpu warranty from newegg, i guess i might find out if its worth anything.

I wonder if its the mobo or CPU that went bad.If you have one you can borrow for an hour somewhere either CPU or mobo then you can find out.

I have 10 days to still get an RMA on both from newegg and they have a sweet policy now that doesnt even require waiting for an email, so i think im just going to ship both of them and be done with it.

I do wish i could find out which caused the problem just out of curiousity.
