help ... writing a paper on John Lennon

... and I have all these required resources I need, but one that's a must is an "academic journal" and I have no idea what that means. Can someone give me an example of an academic journal? I also searched on google but to no avail.
 
Not sure about what journal to look in for stuff about John Lennon. Doubt you'll find anything in something like the Journal of American History. or places like that. I tell you what. Just throw on the White Album, get yourself some....ummm.....research substances....and just write what you feel.

I realize that. I just have a hard time believing you will find something about John Lennon in a research journal. I know all about writing research papers. My Masters Thesis is over 300 pages long. Talk about no fun......

 
An academic journal is a collection of papers published periodically (usually by people like college professors) and is peer-reviewed (meaning submitters get their work reviewed by colleagues before it gets published). It's like reading a bunch of theses, pretty boring stuff unless you're involved in that particular topic. Don't know where you'd find one about Lennon, probably in a music history journal of some sort. I imagine (no pun intended) that it will be difficult to find that type of journal though unless you have a big university nearby.

Dude from England, in a popular band, did lots of drugs, married a fruity Japanese chick, did lots of drugs, held hands and burned inscents (while doing a lot of drugs), ran around nude a lot (while doing a lot of drugs), shot dead in 1980. The End.

What the hell more is there to say about the man? Maybe you could squeeze "fruity" in there one more time, that would be good.

Ok, any other bright ideas? I mean, any academic journal on something like "non-violence, anti-war, etc" that might have a mention of Lennon in it or something that I can relate it to? This is the last source that I need and I just wanna throw in a quote or a paraphrase or something so the proff. will get off my case about having the proper amount of sources.
 
Did a quick search on my uni's library page and most of the hits are to sources like NY Times and Rolling Stone. What's the topic of your paper? Is it mainly biographical or is it more specific?
 
the best place for academic journals is www.jstor.org. It's muy fantastico.

you won't be able to use it, of course, but there's probably somebody here with an ip that jstor allows and that person can help you out.

edit: an academic journal is something like william & mary quarterly, where (often) chapters from books are published, or shorter articles that aren't book-sized pieces.
 
My thesis deals with Lennon's protest against violence. I'm already using Rolling Stone but that's my "periodical" and it's not exactly an "academic journal". What did you find in NY Times?

Yes, thank you, that is where he can get his second requisite "fruity" in. Ok, so add this:

"Considered by many fruity 60's and 70's peacenik antiwar types to be the greatest song writer who ever lived."

Of course, when they get high, they say that about everything. "Man, this is the greatest pet rock that ever lived. Umm...pass the cheesy puffs."
 
I only searched back to 1998. Most of the NY Times articles are about the status of Mark David Chapman's (Lennon's killer) parole, or about some exhibits about Lennon in NY. One article I looked at was:

The New York Times; Sept 30 2001, AR31(N) pAR31(L), col 1
called Waiting for our John Lennon.(the younger generation has no John Lennon) by Neil Strauss.

I also found a Lennon article in a journal called Music & Letters. It has an electronic copy available, but since it's copyrighted I can't post it here. Let me know if you want it PM'd to you or something.
