Hi all: I have my brothers computer here and when I start it up the first thing that happens is a sound much like a british siren continuous noise.

I tried a new power supply same thing

I tried a new hard drive same sound

I tried new memory same sound

One time it booted to the screen and that time i had everything disconnected except the monitor.

My wife is going to kill me with all these parts laying around so any help would be welcome.

Some info on the motherboard / processor and general components would be really useful so people could have some idea as to what the problems may be ;)

Each mobo has different warning sounds for different things.

Unhook all the non vital components, including computer speaker, hd led, pwled etc, and see if it post.

As DannyBoy suggested, please provide some additional info on the hardware. Another thing to try would be to reset the BIOS and see if it will then POST.

Try the CPU in another system. Also ensure the HSF is connected and seated properly.

The alternating tone is a hardware parameter out of spec warning. It may be something meaningless like a chassis intrusion alarm. Look at your BIOS and turn off the hardware monitoring functions one at a time until it goes away. Then deal with it.

Well thanks for the help

I didn't say what the components were because I was afraid I'd give everyone a good laugh. My brother is cheap and here are some details
Motherboard Abit Be6 II with a celeron 466
I know I wanted to toss it in the garbage.
To those who suggested i get into the bios I can't Black screen and
noise. I'll give it a few more attemps but will just suggest an upgrade.
I know from the past I can come here for some good info.

Thanks again Ducksoup

hmm dead video card... or is it onboard video?

though ive never heard of a british siren... that would be more like the MB pc speaker.

I would bet the MB is defective...

Just my thoughts... ive never heard of such a thing

Could be as simple as a crossed wire heh =/
