How about find a PCI-slot cover that is flat (not contoured) and drill a hole in it for the knob? Also note the little side prong, you'd want to drill a little hole for it as well. That keeps the whole assemby from trying to rotate on you.

What side prong?

If you look at the metal body of the adjuster unit, it has a sort of "outrigger" stud at the edge.

On mine, the shaft goes into a silver metal plate which has a prong off to one side. If you drilled a hole for the shaft to go through, the prong would need its own little hole too. I wish I had a digital camera to point out the thing I'm talking about here :(

It looks like a 1/4" hole would do the job for the shaft (the knob can be pulled off) and about 3/16" hole for the little prong. Small enough that I might take my own advice, find a flat PCI-slot cover, and make one so it's not hanging loose in my case anymore :) You would be scandalized to see what a tangle of wiring my home PC is inside... about the opposite of my work rig, which is pretty organized. :D

Nope, no camera :( Someday when I have a full-time job, maybe.

Actually yes, my home system uses that case minus the front ports, except mine is black.

Hehe, I stuck it in a spare plastic bag and it is lying in the bottom of the case :D Ghetto! I should do something about this... *sigh*

No, still attached to the fan at the other end. Its wires are long enough to reach just about anywhere in the case but I never got around to picking a permanent spot for it. Using a PCI-slot cover is a good plan since they're disposable.

oOo hmmm do you think there is any way to make it pop out the side or front? We are going to end up drilling a hole aren't we?

You could drill a hole in one of your 5.25" bay covers if you wanted. If you don't want the knob to show or stick out, reach under the front edge of your case's plastic front (bezel). Feel that slot under there...? Aha... ! :D The bezel can be unclipped from the case so you can drill in that area, and then you would have a hidden adjuster that you could reach through the gap on the bottom edge of the bezel. Just a notion.

I have a variable speed YS Tech fan, and after reading this thread, I took a pci slot cover from my Lian-Li and drilled a 1/4 inch hole in it. I needed to enlarge that hole just a bit. Then I drilled a little hole off to the side for the little metal prong. Everything matched up, and now I have my YS Tech fan control knob sticking out the back of my computer. The best part is that if I want to remove the YS Tech fan for any reason, I just pull off the pci cover. Worked slick. Thanks mechBgon. Good idea.

Previously I just cut a piece from a mounting square and stuck the adjuster on top of my hard drive mount.

I used one of my floppy drive bezels. It worked out pretty nice, but I didn't drill the small hole for the prong. I put some spacers between the bezel and the prong so that the knob wouldn't stick out so far.

I like the PCI slot cover idea. I never thought of it.

The plastic front of the case (where the floppy and cd-drives and USB/FireWire ports are) that clips onto the metal case chassis.
At the bottom of the case, there should be a gap between the bezel and chassis (look directly at the bottom of the case if you can't find it) to let in air.

I didn't actually mean the bezel itself, I meant one of the floppy drive spaces (the piece that covers the hole when there is no drive in there) ;)
