Help with XP user accounts - weird problem.

User account management is simply awful!

I want to make my normal account automanically logon (no password box), so I go to user accounts in control panel and all they have are those gaudy childish icons that let me change the picture or password. WFT?


Then I go to help and I try to find out how its done (I remember how it was in win2k) and it tell me "go to user accounts and click the advanced tab"!!!! There is no advanced tab, there just the gaudy sh*t!!!



Anyone know how to get back the classic style control panel, or to get the advaned options in user accounts? I tried My Computer>Manage>Local Users, but these options arent in there.

haven't tried it, but can't you use the "change the way users log on or off" link? Then unselect the "Use Welcome Screen" option. Not sure if that'll do it but worth a try.

go start > control panel, then on the menu option on the left, choose "switch to classic view"

Yea Delete All Other Users & Make sure that the one you want to logon doesnt require a password...

What the others have said will change the view style but from my experience it still won't bring up the old user manager. To find a solution I had to dig around the Microsoft website, no easy feat. I finally stumbled across it by looking at a question having to do with fixing a computer that was autologging on which shouldn't have.

So to being up the old user manager style interface, and this is the only way I know of if you are not in a domain, in to go to the start menu and then go ro run. type control userpasswords2 and hit enter. This should bring up a screen you are familiar with. I hope this helps.

No problem. My pleasure to help. Been a few days since I checked the board. Not sure what other tricks I know about WinXP. I'm doing a lot of intall/setup scripting for work. Basically adapting our Win2k install scripts so they'll work with XP and they've changed so many things that I've been forced to dig up a lot of this type of info.
