Help with wireless network

Hello all,

I have been working with our wireless/wired network setup here in our house and I have run into a few issues that I am sure a few of the networking experts here can help with.

First, my computer is on a wireless connection here. When I run azureus, it appears that the connection "resets" after a bit of downloading. The connection will pretty much halt all activity and I Won't be able to go to any website for about 20-30 seconds. I have a US robotics Max G router and max g wireless network adapters. I think I read something about this being due to the number of connections azureus makes. Any help is appreciated.

My second issue is this. In the router configuration control panel There is a section call DHCP lease. Well this says "expired" and there is a button to "renew" If I try to do this releasing the lease will succeed, however, renewing it will fail. After that I will have no internet connection to the router and I have to turn off both the router and cable modem to get them to work again. Any idea on this?

I would not run BT over wireless, it's asking for trouble. Do you have the same trouble wired?

Actually, I wouldn't run BT at all. but that's me 🙂

It's likely one of 3 things:
1) The max connections, as you stated. Limit the number of connections in Azureus (Tools -> Options -> Connections or something like that). If that helps start bumping it back up slowly.
2) It may just be your torrent streams are choking your brower bandwidth. If your browser doesn't get the ack's back from the website b/c of the torrent traffic it will time out.
3) It may be your ISP doing traffic shaping. ISPs don't like bittorrent, and they're getting more creative in their efforts to control it.

Why? It's obviously going to be slower than a wired connection, and you probably have a higher chance of dropped packets, but what do you mean when you say "it's asking for trouble"?

Usually you don't reset your DHCP lease unless you have problems with it. If its not automaticly renewing then theres a problem with your ISP. Probably something to do with BT use.
