Help with wireless network security

I've got the BEFW11S4 wireless router from Linksys. I've changed the SSID name, disabled broadcasting of the SSID, enabled 128bit WEP, and enabled the MAC filtering. The Win XP desktop downstairs is configured to connect to this network and does so fine. However, my sisters iBook (with Airport) isn't suppost to connect, yet it does. She doesn't have the WEP key, she can't see the SSID because I turned off broadcasting, and her MAC address isn't in the allowed list. Why can she still reach the Internet?

I just disabled the wireless network itself (so only wired clients could get on) and she can still get online.

I don't know, but it could spark a real sale on Ibook's by hackers.

Have you tried un-configuring the desktop, to see if it can still connect? I wonder if the router's features are really working. I would try to isolate whether it is a universal problem with the router or some unique ability of the Ibook that is causing this.

Also, I'm not 100% sure what airport is. Is that just like another WAP? If so, maybe it needs to be configured too.

Maybe she is connecting to your neighbor's wireless network. I know I can use my neighbor's connection, the dumbass has his AP wide open. And I know several other AT'ers who can connect to their neighbors' unsecured wireless networks.

And an Apple will happily connect to whatever network it can find.

OK. Just read up a little bit on the AIrport. If I understand it right, the Airport is a WAP. So, your sister isn't getting her signal from the Linksys, she is getting it from the Airport (which is maybe also hooked up to the router?) That is my theory anyway.

I went downstairs and checked the desktop, it couldn't connect because the wireless network is off. The airport is the internal wireless NIC for MACs. It's a school issued laptop so we arn't able to open and change the airport settings. It's just stuck on browsing any wireless networks it can connect to. Maybe the airport card is more powerful than the USB NIC (wireless) that is in the desktop downstairs. And she is connection to a neighbor's wireless network. I'll have to ask if anyone beside us has one. Otherwise, I'm lost here. :Q

Also, all of the features (WEP, MAC filtering, SSID) work on the desktop downstairs so I know the router is fine.

I'm not showing any other clients connected to my network. I guess it has to be another network close to us.

That's the only logical thing I can think of.
