if the printer is hooked to the server and you wanted clients to use the printer, then all you need to do is right click on the printer (in Printers) and click sharing.
If the printer has it's own ip address and is attached to the network with a something like a jetdirect card, or jetdirect box then the clents will need to me running Jetadmin (can be found on win9x cd's).

Hope this helps.

so i would have to run jetadmin from the client and the server will automatically detect that a client wants to install the printer?

thanks that does help, ill look into it.

OR do the following (if you haven't tried it already) Share the printer on the Server. Share it by doing the following:

1. Open Start|Settings|Printers
2. Right Click on the Printer and select properties.
3. Click on the Sharing Tab and Select Shared as- Input a name
4. Click OK and then go to the Client

Configuring the Client:

1. Open Start|Settings|Printers
2. Click on the Install a Printer Icon
3. Select Network Printer and click next
4. At this point you can Browse to the printer as it should show up on the network or
you can instert the path \\server\printername and then click Next
5. At this point the system should install the drivers from the server and as you if this is to be the default printer for Windows also you should get the prompt to print a test page.

IF you need any more help let me know

DAM, install JetAdmin on the server then share it out. Go to your client and install the printers as local then capture the port on the server as LPT2,3 whatever and be happy.

Just trying to break it down to the little bits. Some people are not real tight on how to do things so I like to have the most detail that I can give so that there is very little that can go wrong.

PS the other reason is that I work in a Lab of an OEM and I am used to writing defects that the developers need very specific instructions on how to replicate then problems so I also do it out of habit. (developers have a hard time unless you give them the step-by-step)

well, i solved the problem, i could not install the printer by searching the domain, so i went to find, printer, and put in DM* and it found it, i just right clicked on it and it installed perfectly, no need to install any software.

thanks for all your help.
