Help With VPN

Ok guys I have spent the last several hours cruising the net for what I need. I am VERY new to VPN so here is what I have:

A windows XP PRO machine at location A connected to the internet via a cable modem.

And a Windows XP PRO machine at location B connected to the internet via a cable modem.

Here is what I want to know. How and the heck do I setup a VPN between the two? All the tutorials I have found walk me through setting it up to connect to an exisitng VPN network. Do I need to setup a special server someplace? Do I need to setup a special username?, currently using a regular log-on.

Someone hold my hand! <<grins>>

Many Thanks in Advance.

You really can't setup a vpn with windows xp pro. The best you can do is to use remote desktop to access the systems. Are there any servers in this setup. If you have a windows 2000 or 2003 server you can set rras to do vpn using pptp or l2tp. You can also set up linux as a vpn server. Could you tell me a little more?

Ok..

Well what I want to do is be able to access files on the computer at location B without having to log-off that person or vis-a-versa.
