Hello,

Usually i dont need help on how to use programs or applications but with Virtual dub i am lost. So these are the details on what i want to be able to do:

1)Open up an avi file and convert the ac3 audio into mp3.
2)Open up an avi file and convert the divx compression to xvid.
3)Open up an avi file and convert the old divx compression to the new version of divx.
4)Combine two avi files into one avi file containing the two. (The movie is divided into two parts)
5)And lastly have a good overal understanding of virtualdub.

I am a quick learning but i am lost using this program. I just need to get started on the basics and i should be able to figure everyhting else out. Also, i think i read somewhere that inorder to convert the ac3 audio into mp3 you need a filter or soemthing. Is this true? If i dont use a filter is the quality bad? If so how bad?

Any help will be greatly apreciated.

vdub can help you achieve SOME of your goals, but not all of them. vdub is an encoder.... Stripping the audio of out an .avi file is easy, but for other tasks, you might need to use other tools to prepare your encode before finally firing up vdub to finish the job.

www.doom9.net is really the best place to go for guides and walkthroughs.

BTW, Nandub, which is a modified form of virtualdub, allows you to handle audio and vbrmp3.
