help with video card

im looking at a x800xl but everyone keeps saying no because to the sm 3.0 thing or something. they say get the 6800gt
but its a whole lot more expensive.

i dont care about superfast frame rates, as long as it looks smooth and i play at
1024 x 768, no higher

if i dont have the 3.0 will it not let me play games that use it or will it just be a little slower

Someday a few years down the road SM 3.0 will be more important.

ATM (at the moment...not the other acronym you sickos 😛), the X800XL will do very well playing the current modern games.
Don't be too worried about the morons who claim that it's better to have a card like the 6600 GT that offers poorer performance than the X800XL.
The 6800 GT is a slightly better card, but it's not likely worth the price premium.

Get the X800XL & be happy.

As far as I know, SM3.0 just does the same quality enhancements as SM2.0+, but faster. Correct me if I'm wrong.

AFAIK, yes you will still be able to run the game even though your card doesn't support it. It won't necessarily run slower but you won't see the best visuals possible.

oh, i thoght he said "sm 3.0 thing" as in some 3.0 thing. 😛

anyway, x800xl a way better price-performance ratio, and is only slightly worse than the 6800gt.
