Here is a brief overview of my setup, I was about to make a nice visio drawing of this but then it didn't work! :)

| cat 6 (from port 1 on router)

I have 2 PCs plugged into the 8 port with Cat 6

I have 1 PC, Xbox 260, Wii, and Popcorn Hour (Network Media Tank) into the 5 port with cat 5

I am going to order some cat 6 so that all my cabling is the same

My problem is the 8 port switch just blinks all its lights when I have the cable from the router AND the cabloe going to the other switch plugged in.

I suspected that the 8 port was bad a little while ago, but I'm not sure. I want to make sure this setup is possible before I RMA it or something.

Thanks

Yes, the setup should work just fine, provided you don't have any link loops.

E.g. router -> switch 1 -> switch 2 -> router is bad.

So check for any duplicate links / loops, or even a bad cable. Try disconnecting links one by one to see if the problem goes away / can be isolated.

If it's not that, then it's a hardware failure. It happens. The RMA process would probably involve similar diagnostics.
