wait, what are you doing?

if you are using a SERIAL mouse with a usb to serial adapter, that is, an adapter that allows a serial device to be plugged into a USB port, you should be okay... "should

if you are using a USB mouse with a usb to serial adapter (which should not exist), that is, an adapter that allows a USB device to be plugged into a serial port, um, NO WAY!!!

i hate english by the way, usb to serial makes no sense to me. english sucks, as do most languages.

There are mice out there that have a USB connector AND come with
a USB to PS2 adapter. These mice supposedly can be connected to
either a USB (fancy serial port) or PS2 mouse (fancy serial port)
port. The mouse drivers supposedly will auto detect where the mouse
is connected. I've been looking for such an adapter but it appears
they only come with the mouse.........Greg

Do any PS2 mice work in your ATX's M/B mouse port???
Since I'm using my ATX's COM1 port, I've disabled my PS2 mouse
port in the BIOS, thus saving an IRQ.
I'm assuming your PS2 mouse port works???

Greg,
I've tried several different mice to no avail :(
I tried disabling the ps/2 port in the bios and enabling com port 1 still nothing, i'm beginning to believe ther p2/s port is hosed, can you replace them??Or do I need to return the mobo :(:(Man this sucks, I'm wanting to use the ps/2 for my mouse so I can hookup my wireless gateway for my lappy up to the usb :)
My printer is using the other USB port, unless I buy a different printer cable :(

Do you have an old serial mouse that you can hook up to the
9 Pin COM1 port?
Awhile back I purchased a mouse that had a PS2 mouse connector.
It also had a PS2 to 9 Pin serial adapter. (It was a Logitech mouse).
I could never get it to work on the 9 Pin COM port with the
adapter. When I tried it on another PC's PS2 port (without adapter)
it worked fine.
Are there any conflicts in your device manager?
Are you using any mouse drivers that came with the mouse or are you
using Windows 9* drivers?
.
How about a PCI serial add-on card?? $10??
How about a USB add-on card?? $35??
.

Greg,
I put an old 9 pin com port adapter on one of my older serial and ps /2 compatible intellimouse and it won't work either, i have the com port on auto, i've tried disabling them, nothing.I do have one of those usb add on cards that came with my mobo, just gotta figure out where it plugs in to the mobo,it has like 2 plugins for usb and one extra that has share on it.It's like an expansion card type thing that screws in like a video card right??? man i can't believe this :(:(
Thanks for all your help :)
I'm using the latest intellimouse drivers!!
There is no conflicts at all in the device mananger. There is something strange though in the device manager, it has my usb optical and also a hid-compliant mouse??wtf is the hid-compliant mouse??

USB addon cards that came with the mobo???
What kind of system/motherboard do you have? AT or ATX?
What windows are you running?
I wouldn't attempt to run USB on an older AT motherboard.
My 2nd PC (AT) has a Shuttle TX M/B with AMD K233. It came with a USB
adapter (2 wires with 2 ports) but I'm running Win95A on that machine.
My main PC is an ATX with ASUS ZX M/B and has the USB/PS2 ports
built into the M/B. With Win98SE USB works great.....
.
If you start up windows without any mouse connected, do you get the
popup box that says "There's no mouse connected, You may connect one
now?

I didn't think you'd be fussing with an older M/B.
ASUS KM7....Layout shows the USB ports 2 and 3 are below the IDE
and floppy ports...to the right of the VIA chipset and PCI slot 1.
The manual doesn't show the red wires nor where to hook them up!!!
It almost looks like a power connector of some kind (like a HSF).
.
Before hooking this aux USB card up I'd work on the PS2 and serial
ports a little more. Have you tried resetting the BIOS to the
default settings? Does your mouse work on other machines?
This is a stumper.....Greg
.
Later....OH...there are jumpers to enable/disable the PS2 mouse port!
I'm sure you've set those.....

Sounds like youve got a dead ps2 port. Maybe you unplugged something when it was on. Im not sure how much of a stumper that is. I hope you fix the problem either way.
