The boy ripped the charge port out of his Republic Wireless Motorola Defy XT 557. I have the old port or I can order a new one for just a few dollars.

I found an online repair shop that will fix the phone for $150, problem is the phone cost $100 brand new...

Phones on eBay go for $60...

Does anyone think this thing can be fixed for around $50, or is that a pipe dream?

What would I need to fix it myself?

I ordered the #5 torx bit it will take to open the phone up. I can file down a soldering iron tip or use a small torch??

Ordered a battery only external charger so the phone will be somewhat useable...

Ideas?

Brilliant! Thank You!

The link is helpful but the phone is the "XT" version which is a bit different. Still that should get me in the ballpark, thanks!

So it looks like Republic is going to swap the phone, maybe at no charge. They already sent a new phone and the old phone is on the way back. Not sure what it is going to cost, maybe nothing...
