Help with upgrading a Sony VAIO RB-30...

So I bought a sleek sony VAIO RB-30 with an Intel 915GAG mobo and a P4 530 cpu. As you all know P4s run hotter than hell... (mine runs 70C on full load) The memory is 2GB of PC-3200 400mhz DDR RAM.

This might be a noob question but, what would be the best CPU upgrade to swap out my old P4 530? (Can I swap it for a new core 2 duo cpu or is it different architechture?) The CPU is an LGA 755 socket (the 915GAG currently runs at 800mhz FSB)

Also the Sony RB-30 bios is REALLY restrictive (ie. it won't let you adjust the memory timings, etc) so will a CPU swap be automatically configured and recogized?

You have to look at the mobo's specs from thier site or the manual to see what you can swap it out with, but most likely you will not be able to drop a core duo in

There is absolutely no information about the RB30 motherboard. Ive been searching for a while, thats why I thought you guys might be able to help...

Not very many people on this site have ever come close to considering buying a Sony computer.

It's very unlikely that you'll be able to put a Core2Duo into that machine. At a minimum it would require a BIOS update to support it, it will not support the 1066MHz bus (limitation of the chipset), and more than likely it simply doesn't have the power ability on the mainboard to support it regardless of how big a PSU you put in.

It might even be doubtful whether you could put a PentiumD or a 600 series in it. Sony isn't particularly big on "value for money", so making a system user-upgradeable isn't high on their priority list.
