I have an old HP 9300i CD burner, and a Toshiba DVD 6109 (combination DVD / receiver). I have successfully made CDRs that played on this DVD player in the past, but it will not play any newly made discs now. Same brand - same spindle! of CD-Rs. What could have changed here? Could my CD writer be burning differently, or would I be more successful with different software package ? I'm using the orginal easy cd creator from adaptec. Could the DVD need cleaning? WOuld "music" CDRs be better - although I'm not clear on what the differences are between those and whatever else is out there.

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

All CD-ROMs, CD/RWs, DVD,s, etc will eventually need cleaning . . . in particular the laser lens. This is particularly applicable if anyone smokes in the area where the drives are.

Also, update your Adaptec software . . . The original versions 1 and 2 of ECDC were by Corel I learned on those with a Pinnacle 2X burner and CD blanks that were about $4 each!), then it was bought by Adaptec, and then spun off to Roxio. I would not try and live today without the latest updates for any CD burnware.

If you haven't tried it, you might give Nero 5.5+ a try.
