Help with tf2

So i got tf2(orange box) and i've been playing it online, its great fun, but i really don't know what i'm doing. Could anyone just give me a few starter tips, and possibly some stuff to read online, i know it won't happen overnight, but i'd like to know more about strategy, and what exactly i'm doing, couldn't even figure out how to throw grenades 😵 .

Get used to dying alot, the game at times is more like an RTS as you slam troops towards an objective and many die in the process.

Play a simple class that doesn't cause much stress, such as Medic. That way you're playing a vital role to the team, and you can see how other classes play and maneuver themselves around.

You don't throw grenades in TF2. The Demoman class has a grenade launcher + sticky bomb gun, but this isn't a game like Halo or Call of Duty where everyone has nades.

If you're unsure of yourself, play a local match against bots. That way you can practice aiming and how each weapon works. It's pretty much nothing like most shooters you're probably used to.

The community in the game is superb. The mic screamers and children are few and far between. Enjoy it because there aren't many games left like it.

Pick a map type (Control Point, Payload, etc) and stick with it. That way you're not confused as to what type of objectives you should be completing. Do this for awhile at least until you get more comfortable. I play on SourceOP 24/7 Goldrush. That's a Payload map where you push a cart over tracks on offense while Red defends. It's pretty fun.

Most of all have fun. It's one of the best shooters ever made (IMO).

Thanks for the advice, payload looks better than what i've been playing, this intel thing(not even sure what its called) doesn't sound as fun as payload. I did have fun playing it, most games i have to be talking to someone or i get bored quickly(unless its really good, like tf2 portal and the elder scrolls games) I really did enjoy playing, and ill just keep at it, getting my mic tomorrow, and i'll slowly get better, thanks again.

Yep no problem. Payload maps are designated with a pl on the map name, such as pl_goldrush. If you sort by map type you'll see them all.

Most full time servers (SourceOP, Lotus) have communities with alot of joking and chat on there, which makes the game that much better.

As a Medic, pay attention to your Ubercharge (in the bottom right). As you heal allies, your Ubercharge fills up. It fills up faster when you heal allies who actually need healing (have less than 100% hit points). Once it hits 100%, right click and you and that guy are invulnerable for a period of time (around 8 or so seconds). This allows the team to push forward as you and the guy you're Ubering own the people in front of you. Once the Uber is over, the 1-100% count begins again. It resets when you die, so be careful especially when it nears 100% that you don't die or you lose it.

Have fun!

PM me or join my game anytime, name is Wild James on Steam.

tf2wiki.net Has a lot of information to read through. There's probably a guide in there somewhere for new players. Also there are some nice TF2 "how to Play a ..." videos on Youtube, I forget who the user is now.

Also some good advice in the other thread.
