Help with t41p

Hi

My new T41p arrived an it has some weird problem with its Win Xp pro. I click on icons like My Computer and the hourglass sits there and eventually I get the message My Computer Not Responding.

I spoke to "Tech" Support who said that the HD may be bad but PC Doctor found no errors. I suspect that their preinstall has a conflict somewhere but why should I spend half a day trouble shooting this for IBM. Reinstalling from the hard drive caused the same problems. IBM did send the recovery CDs so I am trying this right now. This is very disappointing for a notebook valued at $3400.

Now what I would like to know is how I can remove the preinstall partition on the Hard drive if this repair works. Regardless if this blows up I am RMAing this back but its a bit frustrating as the que for these machines is two weeks.

I did the reformat and tried to reinstall using the CD roms from IBM . The CDRW/DVD drive starting giving this terrible noise like something was hitting then the notebook gave a read fail drive X abort retry fail error and starting beeping three times. Time to RMA.

This is the first notebook of 3 I have purchased that has had this many problems. Not what I expected for an IBM T41 machine. If the replacement sucks I have to consider an alternative, such as a Dell 8600 or a Voodoo Envy.

Did you not get the on-site warranty? Maybe you should consider getting that so they will just come to you to fix it?
