Help with Switech 462

Where do I begin? Well I recieved the switech in the mail and took extreme precautions and some how cracked the core. I then ordered another CPU and well I didn't crack the core but I destroyed the surface mounted electronics. I even used a shim. What am I doing wrong? I've always mounted the heatsink outside the case. Should I try installing inside the case?

You destroyed the surface mount electronics???!! How is that possible, its lower than the core. You have to crack the core before you can get to it. Or maybe the shim is not for a
a Socket A CPU and so it pressed down on it? Unless you slam the HS into the core, there's no way you can crack the core if just put the HS gently, then tighten the screws a little bit at a time. Don' tighten one screw
all the way at once. I'm sure interested in your "extreme precautions", perhaps you can take us step by step?

Maybe you could take the heatsink and your computer to your local (good) computer shop. "A man has got to know his limitations." - Dirty Harry
