help with startup

alright my friend's computer starts up with just a grey screen...nothing else. the screen is grey and that's it. when started in safe mode, the same thing happens but it does say "Safe Mode" in the corners of the screen. it also does not give me the option of restoring the computer to an earlier date. i'm probably wrong but i'm assuming that it's the video card drivers. has anyone had this problem? any help i can get will be appreciated. thanks guys.

If you figure its the drivers then try a fix and report back....

but how am i supposed to install the card's drivers if i can't see anything except a grey screen?

Do you see anything when the computer is loading up and running the POST? Try another monitor cable or switch between DVI and VGA if your monitor supports it.
